Chronos Energy are partnering with a company who provide sustainable energy solutions through district heating and cooling systems. We are looking to recruit a customer delivery focused individual who is an experienced contractual negotiator. The role can be based in either the Midlands or North East office on a hybrid basis.
About the Role
The Commercial Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day commercial management of the district heating and cooling concession agreements across the Midlands & North region. The role will manage existing customer contracts, ensuring contractual obligations are effectively delivered, commercial risks are identified and managed, and contract value is protected and enhanced.
Responsibilities
- Responsibility for the day-to-day commercial management of a portfolio of district heating and cooling concession agreements and customer supply contracts.
- Management of customer contractual relationships and contractual compliance across the concession portfolio.
- Negotiation and implementation of new customer supply agreements to facilitate network expansion and densification opportunities.
- Negotiation and management of property documentation such as; Wayleaves, Easements etc.
- Management of contractual variations, novations, notices, reporting requirements and formal correspondence.
- Working closely with Project / Project Commercial, Operational, Billing, Business Development and Legal teams to ensure contractual requirements are effectively delivered, including the effective transition of workstreams between concession operations and project delivery and where appropriate.
- Identification and management of contractual and commercial risks, with escalation of strategic matters to the Senior Commercial Manager.
- Supporting the implementation of emerging heat network regulation (HNTAS / Ofgem) across the concession portfolio, ensuring contractual and commercial arrangements remain compliant and fit for purpose.
- Supporting the ongoing commercial performance and long-term value of the concession portfolio.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Identification, management and timely escalation of commercial and contractual risks.
- Protection of concession revenue through effective contract management and support of billing and cash collection processes.
- Successful negotiation and implementation of new customer supply agreements and network densification opportunities.
- Development and maintenance of positive commercial relationships with customers and key internal stakeholders.
- Delivery of high-quality, accurate and timely commercial advice, contractual documentation and correspondence.
- Effective collaboration with Operational, Billing, Legal and Business Development teams to support successful contract delivery.
- Timely management and resolution of contractual issues, variations and customer enquiries.
- Achievement of agreed objectives and contribution to departmental and business performance.

Qualifications
- Proven experience in the commercial management of complex, high-value contracts or long-term service agreements.
- Demonstrable contract management and negotiation skills, including experience of contract amendments, variations and other commercial arrangements.
- Experience identifying, managing and resolving contractual and commercial risks and issues.
- Strong commercial acumen with the ability to protect contract value, support revenue growth and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Demonstrable experience building and managing positive customer and stakeholder relationships within a contractual or commercial environment.
- Demonstrable written and verbal communication skills, including the preparation of contractual correspondence, reports and commercial recommendations.
- Knowledge of the energy, utilities, district heating, infrastructure or sustainability sectors would be advantageous, but is not essential.
- Demonstrable ability to work under pressure, and to multiple deadlines, managing their own workload independently.
