Commercial Manager

Salary: Negotiable plus car / car allowance
Hours: Mon – Fri 08:30am – 4:30pm
Location: Teesside
Type: Full time / permanent

Reporting to: Chief Commercial Officer

Job Summary:

The Commercial Manager plays a key leadership role within the group, supporting the Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) in driving the division’s commercial performance.

This position is responsible for leading commercial strategy execution, contract management, pricing, and business development processes to ensure profitable growth, client satisfaction, and long-term value creation for the division. They will act as a central point of coordination between the commercial, finance, and operations teams, ensuring consistency of approach, compliance with contractual obligations, and delivery of agreed commercial objectives.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and develop strategies to take the business forward in line with company policy
  • Review and revise long-term strategies on an ongoing basis
  • Understand the Turnover and Direct Cost Objectives for each revenue stream
  • Identify current Order Book value and longevity per Business Unit. Identify gaps in the Order book and create a plan with estimators to fill potential gaps and ensure we are always working with an order book above the Forecasted objectives.
  • Audit WIP Stage and create action plan to increase efficiency of reporting commercial performance across the division and use to drive change
  • Create and present Divisional business unit plans showing how you will aid and drive the teams to increase revenue and bottom line margin
  • Define and implement CVR per site across Access Services
  • Highlighting costs to run and facilitate each site per week and month vs Revenue generation
  • Lead the preparation, negotiation, and management of key customer and supplier contracts, ensuring commercial risk is appropriately managed
  • Support the development of standardised commercial processes, templates, and governance controls across the division
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and customer insights to inform pricing, positioning, and business development strategies
  • Prepare and present regular commercial performance reports and forecasts to the CCO and Executive Board

The Successful Candidate Must:

  • Have proven experience in a similar role, ideally within a multi-site or group structure.
  • Have a strong track record in contract negotiation, pricing strategy, and commercial risk management.
  • Have excellent financial and analytical skills; able to interpret complex commercial data and identify performance drivers.
  • Be able to demonstrate a strong understanding of contract law, procurement, and project finance principles.
  • Have exceptional stakeholder management and communication skills; able to influence at all levels.
  • Have experience working with NEC and/or JCT forms of contract, with the ability to understand and administer key contractual obligations, notices, variations, and entitlement provisions.
  • Have strong commercial awareness and the ability to identify, manage, and mitigate contractual and financial risks, protecting project margins and the company’s commercial position.
  • Be confident in negotiating with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers, with the ability to resolve commercial issues.
  • Have the commercial awareness and client care skills to identify opportunities for additional works and support the wider group in securing repeat and future business.
  • Enjoy working in a fast-paced environment.
