Commercial Manager | Rail, Tunnel & Highways M&E
London | £85k–£100k + car allowance + bonus + pension
Most commercial roles hand you someone else's system and ask you to keep it running. This one hands you a blank sheet, a Tier 1 client base, and a route to build your own commercial team around you.
Hybrid Electrical Solutions delivers M&E infrastructure across tunnels, rail and highways for Tier 1 clients including Kier. We're part of Hybrid Solutions Group, a founder-owned group that has grown for 13 years without outside investment. The group has chosen HES as its growth engine for the next five years. Your key measure of success will be to identify the opportunity and pipeline for the coming years, create the strategy and build it.
We have strong delivery, a good name and clients who trust us. What we don't have yet is a commercial function or a pipeline that reaches two years ahead. Right now, our wins are owner-led and opportunistic, and that is the only thing holding us back. That's where you come in.
What you'll do
- Build and own a rolling 24-month qualified pipeline, and open doors at Balfour Beatty, BAM Nuttall, Morgan Sindall, VolkerFitzpatrick, and the National Highways, Network Rail and TfL supply chains.
- Lead pricing and bidding yourself: set the margin thresholds, write the bids, negotiate and close.
- Design the commercial operating model from scratch, including pricing framework, CVR and forecasting rhythm, bid library and delegated authority.
- Run commercial on live projects until your QS joins, and set the standard your future team inherits.
- Hire that team (Estimator, QS) as the order book supports it.
- Sit on the SLT from day one.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Who you are
- You have 8+ years of commercial experience in M&E infrastructure, rail, tunnels or highways.
- You're still hands-on: you've priced or written a bid recently, and you enjoy it.
- You've built or rebuilt a commercial function, not just run an established one.
- You can point to frameworks, clients or wins you personally opened.
- You know NEC3/NEC4 inside out.
- You're comfortable being the only commercial person in the room for a while, because you'd rather build than inherit.

What's in it for you
This is an opportunity to build your own team and grow your career within a fast-growth organisation. You won't just be another number or title on a corporate ladder.
You'll work in a founder-owned, cash-generative business with no investors to answer to and no layers of Tier 1 process to work around. You'll have the backing of a wider group spanning FM, rail telecoms and an operations intelligence platform.
If you've been the person quietly building the commercial engine for someone else's business, come and build your own.
