You will join a dedicated team of Commercial Contract Managers who are responsible for managing HMRC’s contracts with third parties for goods and services.

About the Team

The Team Sits Within The HMRC Commercial Directorate Which Is a Part Of Chief Finance Office (CFO). Our Purpose Is To

  • Support the business in managing the suppliers and contracts we have, ensuring that our suppliers deliver the services and goods required to support the delivery of vital public services.
  • We are also responsible for managing commercial risks linked to the contracts.

The team are split across contract categories.

Role Overview

In this role you will be expected to own contract management activity for one (or more) medium complexity/medium value contracts, ensuring the best outcomes are achieved across the commercial lifecycle.

The role includes activity relating to:

  • Mobilising contracts
  • Managing the delivery and performance of the contract
  • Managing commercial contract transition and commercial contract exit

You will work independently and part of a larger team by drawing on your commercial experience to drive performance and manage setbacks. You will be able to prioritise and manage your own workload to deliver to deadlines, mitigate and escalate any emerging risks and to respond swiftly to changing operational demands.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing one or more contracts of medium complexity/value, ensuring effective stakeholder management, governance, performance management frameworks, escalation, risk management, issues resolution, financial management, change control and compliance.
  • Producing and implementing commercial contract management plans/activities to effectively manage the performance of specific contracts.
  • Commercial owner for supplier negotiations including contract variations and/or extensions within your contract portfolio.
  • Monitoring contractual obligations to ensure they fulfil business requirements and deliver value for money. Identifying and delivering continuous improvement opportunities with suppliers.
  • Ensure contract records in SAP Ariba are maintained accurately.
  • Support the business in the effective delivery of operational management of suppliers. Acting as a point of escalation for persistent and critical supplier failures.
  • Leading commercial contract assurance activities, undertaking or commissioning periodic compliance checks of suppliers and other due diligence activities as required.

Essential Criteria

  • MCIPS Level 5/6
  • Thorough knowledge of commercial processes and the commercial arena.
  • Strong track record of building good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong digital skills across a wide range of platforms.
