Overall Summary
At Close Brothers we look to recruit individuals from all different backgrounds and encourage you to apply even if you don’t tick every box. We celebrate diversity, promote inclusivity and are open to discuss flexible work options to help you balance your work and home life.
Join Close Brothers and play a key role in shaping and growing our Commercial Mortgage offering, now transitioning from pilot into an exciting growth phase. In this role, you will originate, structure and deliver owner-occupied commercial mortgage solutions to UK SMEs, primarily across the South of England.
You will drive new business through strong relationships with internal sales teams, brokers and customers, taking deals from initial engagement through to credit approval and completion. Alongside this, you will manage your portfolio throughout the life of each loan, ensuring a consistently high standard of service and risk management.
We are looking for someone with a proven track record in new business development within owner-occupied commercial mortgages, backed by strong financial and credit skills. You will bring resilience, accountability and a proactive approach to growing a high-quality loan book.
This is a field-based role, so you will be based from your home office but will spend a significant amount of time on the road meeting customers. Covering the South of England and Wales, the ideal location would be along the M4 corridor, although we are open to candidates with good access to the region.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
