The Role

As a Commercial Officer, you will provide commercial and contractual support across the business, helping to ensure that customer contracts, quotations, bids and commercial activities are managed effectively and in line with company policies and procedures. Working closely with colleagues across Programmes, Operations, Finance, Sales and Supply Chain, you will play an important role in maintaining strong customer relationships, supporting business growth and helping to mitigate commercial risk. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual looking to develop their commercial career within a fast-paced and highly regulated defence environment.

The Commercial Officer will support the administration and management of customer contracts and commercial activities across the business. Acting as a key point of contact for day-to-day commercial matters, the role will provide guidance, maintain commercial records, support customer and supplier interactions, and contribute to successful business delivery and growth.

What will I be delivering?

  • Provide commercial support to the business — Support the administration and management of customer contracts, subcontracts and associated commercial activities.
  • Act as a trusted commercial partner — Provide day-to-day commercial guidance and support to internal stakeholders across the business.
  • Manage contract administration — Maintain contract records, commercial logs, document repositories and other key commercial documentation.
  • Support quotations and bids — Assist with the preparation, submission and administration of quotations, RFQs, tender responses and supporting commercial documentation.
  • Coordinate Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs) — Prepare, issue and administer NDAs in accordance with company procedures.
  • Collaborate across functions — Work closely with Finance, Programmes, Operations, Procurement, Export Compliance and Sales teams to support successful contract delivery.
  • Support business development activities — Assist with the administration of new business opportunities and ensure commercial records are accurate and complete.
  • Monitor commercial risks — Identify and escalate potential contractual, commercial or programme risks to senior commercial and programme teams.
  • Maintain customer and supplier relationships — Develop effective working relationships with customers, subcontractors and internal stakeholders to support successful outcomes.
  • Support commercial improvements — Contribute to process improvements, best practice initiatives and continuous improvement across the Commercial function.
  • Support customer compliance — Assist in monitoring customer obligations, payment terms and contractual commitments.
  • Represent the business professionally — Help ensure the organisation is regarded as a trusted and easy-to-do-business-with partner.

What do I need to bring with me?

Essential knowledge & experience:

  • Commercial or contract management experience — Ideally 2+ years' experience in a commercial, contracts, business support or related role.
  • Strong organisational skills — Able to manage multiple priorities, maintain accurate records and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills — Confident communicating with customers, suppliers and colleagues at all levels.
  • Relationship-building capability — Able to develop positive working relationships and resolve day-to-day commercial issues effectively.
  • Attention to detail — Able to review documentation accurately and maintain high standards of quality.
  • Commercial awareness — Understanding of the role commercial teams play in supporting business objectives and managing risk.
  • IT proficiency — Competent using Microsoft Office applications and business systems.
  • Self-motivated and proactive — Able to work independently whilst managing priorities within a collaborative team environment.
  • Flexibility and adaptability — Comfortable working in a fast-paced, growing and changing business environment.

Desirable:

  • Experience within the defence, aerospace, engineering, manufacturing or other regulated industries.
  • Knowledge of customer contracts, subcontracts and commercial processes.
  • Experience supporting bids, proposals or tender submissions.
  • Understanding of contract lifecycle management and commercial governance.
  • Experience working alongside programme, finance or operational teams.
  • Awareness of UK defence contracting environments and customer requirements.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain UK Security Clearance.
