I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

The firm is investing further in its London OMB offering, with an ambition to build a genuinely connected ecosystem for owner-managed businesses across the wider practice. This creates an opportunity for an established Partner to continue developing their practice, supported by the infrastructure and wider expertise of an established national firm.

The Role

This is an excellent opportunity for an established Commercial Partner to join a growing London OMB offering and continue building a significant practice.

The successful candidate will have a strong proportion of Owner-Managed Business clients within their existing practice and advise entrepreneurs, shareholders, family-owned businesses and other privately held companies across a broad range of Commercial matters.

The exact nature of your practice is flexible, but you should have strong experience advising businesses on their commercial arrangements and a network of OMB clients and contacts. This could include commercial contracts, technology and IT agreements, outsourcing, IP, data protection, competition, franchising or other areas of commercial advisory work.

You will work closely with the OMB leadership team and contribute to the wider OMB ecosystem, with opportunities to introduce clients to colleagues across Corporate, Employment, Real Estate, Private Client, Dispute Resolution and other specialist areas.

A particularly attractive aspect of the opportunity is that there is no fixed following threshold. The firm is interested in the quality of your relationships, your track record of generating referrals and work, and your potential to continue building a substantial practice rather than requiring a particular level of portable revenue.

  • Broad Commercial experience, with flexibility across different areas of specialism.
  • Commercially minded, entrepreneurial and proactive, with strong relationship-building and networking skills.
  • Ambitious and motivated to continue building a significant practice.
  • Collaborative and sector agnostic, with a strong OMB network and willingness to introduce clients to the wider firm.
