Job Description: Commercial Property & Casualty (P&C) Underwriter
Are you an experienced Commercial Property & Casualty (P&C) Underwriter looking for an opportunity to make a significant impact with a respected global organization? We’re looking for a highly skilled, motivated, and forward-thinking individual to join our rapidly expanding underwriting team in a top-tier insurance company.
As a Commercial P&C Underwriter, you will play a pivotal role in underwriting complex and diverse risks, managing a portfolio of high-value commercial accounts across various industries. This is an opportunity to leverage your expertise and work in a dynamic, results-oriented environment while being part of a team committed to excellence.
Your Responsibilities:
- Risk Assessment & Underwriting: Evaluate, price, and underwrite complex commercial property and casualty risks, ensuring alignment with company risk appetite and strategic goals. You will work on a variety of accounts, from mid-market to large commercial, in sectors such as manufacturing, energy, construction, technology, and more.
- Client & Broker Relationships: Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, agents, and clients, guiding them through the underwriting process. Provide expert advice on coverage options, policy terms, and pricing, tailoring solutions to meet unique client needs while managing the overall risk exposure.
- Portfolio Management: Manage a profitable portfolio, identifying areas for growth while maintaining underwriting discipline. Regularly review and monitor existing accounts, ensuring retention and profitability through proactive account management and risk mitigation strategies.
- Strategic Risk Analysis: Continuously monitor and assess market trends, economic factors, and emerging risks, adapting underwriting strategies to maintain competitive advantage. You’ll work closely with internal teams to develop and implement pricing and coverage strategies for new and existing risks.
- Collaboration: Work with claims, legal, and actuarial teams to resolve complex coverage issues and claims disputes, ensuring smooth communication and timely solutions. Collaborate with senior leadership to refine underwriting strategies and develop business objectives.
- Innovation & Process Improvement: Utilize cutting-edge tools and data analytics to streamline underwriting processes and enhance risk assessment capabilities. Leverage technology to improve efficiency, drive smarter decision-making, and better serve clients.

What We’re Looking For:
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years underwriting commercial P&C business, with a solid understanding of risk evaluation, policy structures, and pricing strategies.
- Strong Technical Knowledge: Expertise in underwriting a variety of commercial lines, including property, casualty, general liability, and excess liability. Familiarity with industry trends and emerging risks is essential.
- Relationship Building: A strong communicator who thrives on building and nurturing relationships with brokers, agents, and clients. Your interpersonal skills will be key to building trust and influencing decisions.
- Analytical Skills: You bring strong analytical thinking, able to identify risk factors, make data-driven decisions, and adjust underwriting strategies as needed to achieve profitable outcomes.
- Attention to Detail: A keen eye for detail, ensuring accuracy in risk evaluation, pricing, and documentation while maintaining a focus on the bigger picture.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, with relevant certifications such as CPCU (Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter) or AU (Associate in Underwriting) being a plus.
- Technology Savvy: Proficiency in underwriting software, Microsoft Office Suite, and other data analysis tools. Experience with digital transformation in the underwriting process is a plus.
