Commercial Portfolio Lead

Position: Permanent | Salary: £72,900–£81,000 DOE + Benefits
Location: Farnborough
Working Pattern: Hybrid | Minimum 3 days per week on site
Hours: 37 hours per week
We’re partnering exclusively with a leading organisation operating within advanced technology and engineering to appoint an experienced Commercial Portfolio Lead.
This is an excellent opportunity for a senior commercial professional to provide strategic leadership and oversight across a complex, multidisciplinary portfolio spanning multiple business units.
Working closely with senior stakeholders and cross-functional teams, you’ll shape and deliver a long-term commercial strategy that supports wider organisational objectives, strengthens commercial governance and enables the successful delivery of strategically important programmes.
The Opportunity
As Commercial Portfolio Lead, you’ll take ownership of the commercial direction across a high-profile portfolio, developing a three-to-five-year engagement strategy and ensuring it is embedded effectively throughout the organisation.
You’ll provide commercial governance across complex proposals and contracts, lead significant negotiations and manage key relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
This is a senior and influential position requiring strong commercial judgement, strategic thinking and the confidence to advise and challenge stakeholders at Executive Committee level.
Key Responsibilities
You’ll provide strategic commercial leadership across the portfolio by:
- Developing and implementing a three-to-five-year commercial engagement strategy aligned with wider portfolio and organisational objectives.
- Providing commercial leadership and oversight across complex, multidisciplinary programmes and business areas.
- Developing portfolio-wide commercial strategies covering people, processes and tools.
- Leading and managing key strategic relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Providing commercial governance and oversight across proposals and contracts, including non-standard and medium-to-high-complexity agreements.
- Developing negotiation strategies and leading the planning of significant commercial negotiations.
- Influencing senior stakeholders, including those at Executive Committee level.
- Overseeing and coordinating Integrated Delivery Teams where required.
- Ensuring commercial activity supports effective delivery against wider business objectives.
- Identifying commercial opportunities, risks and challenges and presenting strategic recommendations to senior leadership.
- Collaborating across multiple business functions to embed commercial strategy effectively throughout the portfolio.

About You
You’ll be an experienced commercial professional with a strong track record in commercial management or leadership within a complex organisation.
Experience within Defence, Aerospace, Marine or another highly regulated and technically complex industry would be particularly valuable. Candidates from other relevant sectors will also be considered where they can demonstrate the required level of commercial leadership.
You will also have:
- At least five years of practical experience in a commercial management or commercial leadership role.
- Proven experience developing and implementing commercial strategies across complex portfolios.
- Strong knowledge of commercial governance, contracts and proposals.
- Experience managing non-standard or medium-to-high-complexity commercial agreements.
- A proven ability to develop negotiation strategies and lead significant negotiations.
- The confidence and credibility to influence senior stakeholders at Executive level.
- Experience managing strategic internal and external relationships.
- Strong commercial judgement and the ability to operate effectively across multidisciplinary environments.
- A strategic mindset, with the ability to balance long-term commercial planning with day-to-day delivery.
- A degree, equivalent qualification or relevant professional experience.
- An MCIPS qualification would be advantageous.

Security Clearance
Due to the nature of the organisation and its work, you must be eligible to obtain and maintain UK Security Clearance to SC level as a minimum. Additional nationality or previous nationality restrictions may apply depending on the specific work undertaken.
