Commercial Electrician

Salary: £32,000 - £48,000 per year

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Commercial Electrician to join their growing team, working across commercial and industrial sites on a range of exciting projects involving solar PV systems.

This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified electrician looking to expand their skills within the renewable energy sector. Previous solar experience is not required, as full training and ongoing support will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, gland and terminate SWA cables to a high standard.
  • Construct trunking, cable tray and conduit systems that are level, secure and compliant with industry standards.
  • Carry out LV distribution work, including panel board connections, isolators, MCCBs, RCBOs, metering and labelling.
  • Perform inspection and testing activities, including dead and live testing, and accurately complete EIC and EICR certification.
  • Support solar PV installations, including inverter AC terminations, CT installations and communications power connections, with full training provided.
  • Interpret schematics, cable schedules and method statements, while planning materials and proactively identifying potential issues.
  • Maintain the highest standards of health and safety, including safe isolation procedures, permits to work, working at height, manual handling and compliance with site RAMS.
  • Represent the client professionally on site, maintaining excellent workmanship and a positive attitude.

Candidate Requirements

  • NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation (or equivalent) and 18th Edition (BS 7671).
  • Competence in inspection and testing, supported by City & Guilds 2391 or 2394/2395 qualifications, or demonstrable equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience installing and terminating SWA cables, as well as carrying out trunking and traywork within commercial or industrial environments.
  • Confidence in conducting and interpreting electrical tests, including continuity, insulation resistance, polarity, Zs/Ze and RCD testing.
  • Ability to produce accurate test documentation, certification and as-built records.
  • Valid ECS or CSCS card.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Desirable Skills and Qualifications

The following are advantageous but not essential:

  • Experience with PV inverters, AC distribution systems for solar installations, or metering and CTs.
  • Knowledge of grid protection systems, including G99/G100 requirements and interface relays.
  • IPAF, PASMA, First Aid or SSSTS certification.

Working Arrangements
