Commercial Sales Director

Full time - Permanent role
Cambridgeshire (5 days - Office-Based)
£100,000-£120,000 Base Salary + Performance-Related Earnings

About the Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced and commercially driven Commercial Sales Director to lead and scale a high-performing sales organisation within a well-established, growth-focused business.

This is a senior leadership role with responsibility for revenue generation across multiple channels, including direct sales, events, sponsorships, memberships, and customer development. Reporting directly to the Managing Director and working closely with the leadership team, you will play a key role in shaping commercial strategy and driving sustainable growth.

Key Responsibilities

Sales Leadership

  • Lead and develop two established sales functions of approximately 30 team members:
    • Customer Engagement Team (new customer acquisition and lead conversion)
    • Customer Development Team (existing customer growth and high-value programme sales)
  • Mentor team leaders, drive performance, and create a culture of accountability, development, and success.

Revenue Growth

  • Own and deliver revenue targets across multiple channels, including:
    • Direct sales
    • Live events and conferences
    • Membership programmes
    • Sponsorship and partnership opportunities
  • Develop and implement strategies to maximise conversion rates, customer value, and overall commercial performance.

Event Sales

  • Take ownership of commercial outcomes from live events, masterclasses, conferences, and customer experiences, ensuring strong sales performance before, during, and after events.

Sponsorship & Partnerships

  • Build and grow a structured sponsorship and partnership revenue stream, creating long-term commercial relationships and increasing the value generated from existing audiences, events, and brand assets.

Membership Growth

  • Drive the growth, retention, and profitability of membership communities by creating compelling value propositions and scalable commercial plans.

Commercial Performance

  • Monitor and improve sales KPIs and conversion metrics
  • Utilise Salesforce and data-driven insights to inform decisions
  • Forecast accurately and manage pipeline performance
  • Present strategic recommendations and action plans to senior leadership

  • Consistent month-on-month revenue growth
  • Improved conversion rates and revenue per salesperson
  • A high-performance sales culture with strong talent development
  • Growth in sponsorship and partnership income
  • Increased membership numbers, retention, and customer lifetime value
  • Clear visibility of pipeline, forecasting, and commercial performance metrics

About You

Experience & Leadership

  • 15+ years of sales experience with significant leadership responsibility
  • Proven track record leading sales teams and sales leaders
  • Demonstrable success delivering and exceeding ambitious revenue targets

Commercial Expertise

  • Strong background in high-ticket B2C sales environments
  • Experience within education, training, coaching, events, memberships, or similar sectors is highly desirable
  • Skilled at identifying and developing new revenue opportunities

People Development

  • Passionate about coaching, mentoring, and developing high-performing teams
  • Experienced in creating strong sales cultures focused on performance, development, and customer outcomes

Strategic & Analytical

  • Strong commercial acumen with a data-led approach
  • CRM expertise, ideally Salesforce
  • Comfortable analysing performance metrics and translating insights into action

  • Proactive, energetic, and hands-on leadership style
  • Comfortable operating in fast-paced, entrepreneurial environments
