How you’ll power our business as a Commercial Sales Representative

This is a fixed term contract for 12 months Maternity Cover

As a Commercial Sales Representative, you’ll maximise commercial sales opportunities and deliver an exceptional customer experience through consultative selling, effective account management, up-selling, cross-selling and new customer acquisition. You’ll balance margin opportunities with customer sustainability, using your account management and negotiation skills to grow margin across your customer portfolio. Working in a quality-focused environment, you’ll help us exceed customer expectations through teamwork, professional interactions and effective communication.

What you’ll be doing

  • Maximise commercial sales opportunities through consultative selling, account management, up-selling, cross-selling and new customer acquisition.
  • Handle inbound customer contact across calls, emails and other channels, supporting customers through a consultative sales approach.
  • Negotiate sales prices within agreed authority levels to maximise profitability and margin.
  • Identify and maximise sales opportunities, ensuring relevant products and services are matched to customers’ current and future needs.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive knowledge of our commercial products, services, customers and industry.
  • Manage and grow an existing portfolio of customer accounts, retaining customer numbers, volume and margin while identifying opportunities for further growth.
  • Work closely with Business Account Managers to produce customer SWOT analyses, identify new business prospects and provide sales and customer service excellence.
  • Support order taking, refer calls and leads appropriately, and deputise for Business Account Managers when required.
  • Support new sales activity for fuel and ancillary products, including campaigns and prospecting lapsed or lost customers.
  • Build and maintain genuine customer relationships to support retention and prevent customer churn or account degradation.
  • Use sales pipeline reporting and account management tools to prospect customers and manage opportunities effectively.
  • Manage the legal diary for existing contracted commercial accounts to support customer retention.
  • Review customer service queries, investigate complaints and provide appropriate resolutions, escalating issues in line with company procedures.
  • Proactively contact customers to review service delivery and identify opportunities to improve satisfaction.
  • Identify current and future customer needs and recommend relevant products and services through effective account management.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of competitor activity and developments, recording relevant information on company systems.
  • Record customer interactions, quotations, sales, enquiries and reason codes accurately and in line with company standards.
  • Handle customer financial information appropriately, including credit checks, credit applications, payment processing and credit or debit note requisitions.
  • Ensure all customer interactions and calls are handled compliantly and in accordance with agreed company standards.
  • Work effectively with colleagues and teams across the business to deliver sales and customer service excellence.
  • Promote a positive Health and Safety culture in line with Safety F1rst principles and comply with all relevant HSE policies and procedures.

What we’ll need from you

  • B2B Contact Centre experience is desirable.
  • A proven track record in telephone selling, up-selling and cross-selling.
  • Account management experience is desirable.
  • Self-confidence and strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build professional rapport with customers.
  • High levels of self-motivation and strong time management skills.
  • Resilience, persistence and a hardworking approach.
  • A target-driven and results-oriented mindset.
  • The ability to handle customer objections assertively and professionally.
  • Strong customer service skills, with the ability to manage customer interactions with empathy.
  • Good organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise effectively.
  • Strong listening skills and excellent verbal communication.
  • The ability to build and maintain effective customer relationships.
  • A commitment to teamwork, personal development and delivering high standards of customer service.
  • GCSE Maths and English are required.
