Salary: Dependant on Experience

Travel: UK site travel required, with occasional overnight stays depending on site survey and project requirements

AES is a renewable energy technology specialist supporting commercial clients in transitioning to cleaner, lower-cost, and more independent energy sources. The company designs, installs, and maintains solar and battery solutions tailored to commercial needs. AES also delivers low carbon heating systems, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, and commercial metering services. Team members collaborate with clients to implement practical, efficient energy systems that reduce environmental impact while supporting long-term business performance.

Role Description

The Commercial Solar Project Manager is responsible for overseeing end-to-end delivery of commercial solar projects, from initial scoping through commissioning and handover. This full-time, hybrid role is based in Dartford, with some flexibility to work from home. Day-to-day activities include managing project schedules and budgets, coordinating design and installation activities, and ensuring compliance with technical and safety standards. The role involves liaising with clients, suppliers, and internal teams, preparing project documentation and reports, and proactively managing risks and contract obligations. The Project Manager will also support continuous improvement of project processes and contribute to the planning of future solar and battery solutions.

Qualifications

  • Strong analytical skills to interpret technical data, evaluate project performance, and support decision-making.
  • Excellent communication skills for coordinating stakeholders, managing client expectations, and preparing clear documentation.
  • Budgeting and finance skills to plan, track, and control project costs and ensure financial performance.
  • Contract management skills to administer commercial agreements, manage variations, and ensure compliance with terms.
  • Experience managing construction or renewable energy projects, preferably in commercial solar or battery systems.
  • Working knowledge of health, safety, and environmental standards relevant to energy and construction projects.
  • Proficiency with project management tools and MS Office; familiarity with scheduling software is beneficial.
  • Relevant degree or equivalent experience in engineering, construction management, renewable energy, or a related field.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a hybrid environment, travel to sites as needed, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Desirable

  • SMSTS or equivalent construction management qualification.
  • Appropriate CSCS qualification.
  • IOSH, NEBOSH or other recognised health & safety qualification.
  • Electrical or renewable energy qualification/background.
  • Commercial Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) experience.
  • Knowledge of DNO/G99 requirements and commercial grid connections.
  • Experience coordinating scaffolding, temporary works and working-at-height activities.
  • Familiarity with solar design and electrical design software.
  • Previous experience working within a Principal Contractor / Principal Designer CDM environment.

  • Comfortable working independently while reporting to the Senior Project Manager.
  • Able to communicate professionally with clients, consultants, suppliers and contractors.
  • Confident chairing client pre-start and project coordination meetings.
  • Focused on health & safety, installation quality and successful project delivery.
  • Comfortable spending time on active construction sites and taking ownership of site-based issues.
