Salary: £50,000–£60,000 per annum (DOE)
Location: Pontypridd (CF37 1BW), initially 4 days per week in the office
Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Holiday: 33 days per annum, inclusive of bank holidays

As our commercial renewables business grows, we are seeking an experienced Commercial Solar PV Designer to lead the technical design of commercial solar PV systems and coordinate projects from design through to installation and handover.
The ideal candidate will combine strong commercial solar design expertise with practical project management skills, ensuring designs are technically compliant, commercially viable and ready for installation.
Key Responsibilities
- Design commercial rooftop and ground-mounted solar PV systems, from approximately 50 kW to multi-MW installations.
- Produce system layouts, electrical schematics, single-line diagrams (SLDs) and technical documentation.
- Carry out AC/DC design, string sizing, cable calculations, inverter selection and energy yield modelling.
- Prepare and support DNO applications, including G99/G100 requirements.
- Use AutoCAD and specialist solar design software to develop and optimise system designs.
- Ensure designs comply with relevant UK regulations, industry standards and installation best practices.
- Provide technical guidance to installation teams, clients and project stakeholders.
- Manage and coordinate projects from design through to installation, commissioning and handover.
- Coordinate site surveys, procurement, resources, subcontractors and project schedules.
- Monitor project progress, resolve technical issues and ensure designs are implemented correctly.
- Support site visits, quality checks, commissioning and final project handover.

Key Requirements
- 2–5 years' experience designing commercial solar PV systems.
- Experience with commercial rooftop and/or ground-mounted installations, ideally from 50 kW to multi-MW scale.
- Strong knowledge of AC/DC design, string sizing, cable calculations, SLDs and energy yield modelling.
- Experience with DNO applications and a good understanding of G99/G100, BS 7671 and applicable MCS requirements.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and at least one solar design package, such as PV*SOL, HelioScope or PVsyst.
- Experience managing or coordinating projects through to installation and completion.
- Strong organisational, communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects.
- Desirable: Experience with SketchUp, Revit, GIS or complex commercial electrical installations.

Qualifications
- Level 3 electrical qualification, ideally NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds in Electrical Installation or equivalent.
- Recognised Solar PV Design qualification.
- Knowledge of the 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671), including applicable amendments.
