COMMERCIAL TECH CONTRACTS ASSOCIATE | 1–5 PQE | BIRMINGHAM | £60,000–£75,000 + BONUS | NO FEE-EARNING TARGET
I’m currently working with a leading national law firm looking to appoint a Commercial Tech Contracts Associate (1–5 PQE) to its highly regarded Birmingham team.
One of the biggest differentiators? There is no individual fee-earning target.
Instead, the focus is on delivering high-quality work, developing technically and commercially, building strong client relationships and becoming a well-rounded lawyer.
It’s a genuinely high-calibre team offering excellent quality work, a collaborative culture and exposure to both major strategic projects and day-to-day commercial and technology contracting.
The work includes:
- Data protection and UK GDPR compliance programmes
- Data processing, data sharing and international data transfer arrangements
- Cybersecurity, data breaches and incident response matters
- AI governance, emerging technologies and regulatory compliance
- Digital marketing, e-Privacy and PECR compliance
- Technology, outsourcing and managed service agreements
- Software licensing, SaaS, cloud and technology procurement projects
- Strategic corporate and technology transactions

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
