Hiring Manager: Yordan Trpeski
As a Commercial Specialist, you'll play a key role in managing and developing a portfolio of customer-facing commercial services, contracts and agreements that support the operation and growth of the UK's largest gas distribution network.
Working within Cadent's Energy Systems Operations team, you'll combine commercial expertise, customer focus and industry knowledge to ensure services are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with contractual and regulatory requirements. You'll be responsible for managing commercial performance, budgets and contract obligations while building strong relationships with customers, delivery partners and internal stakeholders.
This is a varied and rewarding role that offers exposure across customer connections, Entry and Exit Agreements, commercial services, operational contracts and regulatory frameworks. You'll work closely with teams across Operations, Connections, Finance, Legal, Regulation and Customer Operations to deliver commercially robust solutions that create value for customers and Cadent.
As a recognised specialist, you'll provide commercial insight, challenge and support to help shape business decisions, improve service delivery and identify opportunities for growth and continuous improvement.

- Own Commercially Significant Services You'll take ownership of a portfolio of customer-facing contracts and services, ensuring they remain commercially sustainable, contractually compliant and deliver positive outcomes for customers and Cadent.
- Influence Network Growth and Customer Connections Working across Network Entry and Exit Agreements, customer connections and wider commercial services, you'll help facilitate network growth while supporting customers through complex commercial and operational requirements.
- Be the Commercial Expert You'll be trusted to provide specialist advice on commercial arrangements, contracts, budgets, forecasting and performance management, helping the business make informed commercial decisions.
- Build Meaningful Relationships This role offers the opportunity to work directly with customers, developers, transporters, Independent Gas Transporters (IGTs), contractors and industry partners and internal stakeholders. You'll play a key role in maintaining strong relationships and ensuring customer needs are balanced with commercial and regulatory requirements.
- Drive Value and Performance You'll challenge costs, support commercial negotiations, and ensure contractor performance delivers maximum value. Your work will directly contribute to efficient investment and operational delivery across the business.
- Shape Continuous Improvement You'll identify trends, benchmark performance, investigate commercial issues, and introduce improvements that strengthen commercial controls, reporting, and overall business performance.

What you'll bring
What You'll Bring
- Degree, equivalent qualification, or relevant experience in a commercial discipline.
- Experience managing commercial contracts, customer agreements, or customer-facing services.
- Strong commercial and financial management skills, including budget, forecasting, and performance management.
- Experience in cost control, commercial reporting, profit and loss accountability, and performance analysis.
- Strong contract management and negotiation capabilities.
- Proven ability to build effective relationships with customers, suppliers, contractors, and internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to identify commercial risks and opportunities and implement practical solutions.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a data-led approach to decision-making.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
- A proactive mindset focused on continuous improvement and customer outcomes.
- Knowledge of utility, infrastructure, construction, or engineering environments is advantageous.
Desirable
- Experience within the gas, utilities, infrastructure, or energy sectors.
- Knowledge of customer connections processes and commercial arrangements.
- Experience managing customer-facing agreements, including Entry and Exit Agreements or similar.
- Understanding of regulatory requirements, licence obligations, and governance frameworks.
- Experience working with developers, transporters, IGTs, shippers, or biomethane customers.
- Knowledge of commercial charging methodologies.
- Experience managing NEC, TERM, or similar contract forms.
