I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

The Commercial team works at the heart of our MBDA programmes across our product portfolio. As the customer-facing Function, the team plays a vital role in winning new business, negotiating agreements, and managing contracts from the early route to contract stage through to contract award, delivery, and closure. Working closely with our customer and key stakeholders, Commercial helps shape successful partnerships and deliver value throughout the contract lifecycle.
As a Summer Placement you'll experience the excitement of working on programmes that deliver cutting-edge capability to our customers. You'll gain hands-on experience in negotiating commercial solutions, managing contracts, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, giving you a unique insight into how commercial decisions shape business success.
No two days are the same - you'll engage with a range of stakeholders across the business, such as Project Management & Control (project managers) regarding the delivery of a contract and management of schedules; Procurement for the management of supplier contracts; and Finance for any matters relating to receipt of customer payments and payments to subcontractors.
This role is ideal for those looking to combine commercial thinking with contract delivery, working on complex contracts that make a real impact, and in a collaborative and supportive environment.
