Level 2 Commis Chef Apprenticeship - The Strawberry Cabin

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join The Strawberry Cabin as a Commis Chef Apprentice. This is an exciting opportunity to develop professional cookery skills in a busy kitchen environment, working alongside experienced chefs, preparing fresh and high-quality food, and gaining valuable hands-on experience. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to learn new cooking techniques, develop their knowledge of food safety and hygiene, and build a strong foundation for a successful career in the hospitality industry.

Apprenticeship Overview:

  • Salary: £8.00 an hour, Automatic pay increase after one year on programme for 19+ year olds
  • Working Week: Monday - Friday - 8am - 4pm (30 minute break)
  • Hours: 37.5 hours per week
  • Duration: 15 months
  • Level 2 Commis Chef Apprenticeship standard qualification
  • Online training supported by our dedicated tutor
  • Location: Manor Farm, Watling Street, Hints, Tamworth, B78 3DF

Duties

  • Prepare and cook menu items to The Strawberry Cabin's recipes and quality standards.
  • Assist with food preparation and daily kitchen setup.
  • Bake fresh cakes and other baked goods to specification.
  • Maintain high standards of food hygiene, cleanliness, and organisation throughout the kitchen.
  • Carry out cleaning duties, including equipment, workstations, and food preparation areas.
  • Help maintain a safe working environment by following all health and safety and food hygiene procedures.
  • Learn how to complete daily kitchen paperwork, including temperature records, cleaning schedules, and food safety documentation.
  • Work efficiently as part of the kitchen team, communicating effectively and supporting colleagues during busy service periods.
  • Ensure stock is stored correctly and ingredients are handled safely to minimise waste.
  • Be willing to learn new skills and continually develop your culinary knowledge.

  • GCSEs in English and Maths at grades 4–9 (A*–C) desirable

Skills and Personal Qualities:

  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
  • Passion for cooking
  • Willingness to learn

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Progression from this apprenticeship is expected to be into a Chef de Partie role or Senior Production Chef role.

  • Potential full-time employment for the right candidate upon successful completion of the apprenticeship.
