Commis Chef – Marine Hotel, Paignton
We are looking for an enthusiastic Commis Chef to join our kitchen team at the Marine Hotel in Paignton.
This is a great opportunity for someone at the beginning of their kitchen career who is keen to develop their skills, gain experience and learn from an experienced team. You may already have some experience working in a professional kitchen, or you may be looking for the right opportunity to start your career as a chef.
Working alongside the wider kitchen team, you will support the preparation and delivery of consistently high-quality food for our hotel guests. You will need to be organised, willing to learn and comfortable working in a busy environment.

Located on the beautiful Paignton seafront, the Marine Hotel is a 53-bedroom coastal hotel welcoming both leisure and group guests throughout the year.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A COMMIS CHEF
As Commis Chef, You Will
- Support the preparation and cooking of dishes to the required standard
- Complete food preparation ahead of each service
- Work closely with the wider kitchen team to deliver an efficient service
- Follow recipes, portion controls and presentation standards
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment
- Follow food safety, hygiene and allergen procedures
- Assist with deliveries, stock rotation and the correct storage of ingredients
- Complete cleaning and closing duties as required
- Continue developing your kitchen knowledge and practical skills
What We Need From You
We are looking for someone who:
- Has a genuine interest in food and wants to develop a career in the kitchen
- Is positive, reliable and willing to learn
- Works well as part of a team
- Can remain organised and focused during busy services
- Takes pride in maintaining high standards
- Understands the importance of food hygiene and kitchen safety
- Is flexible and able to work a mixture of shifts, including evenings, weekends and bank holidays

Previous experience in a professional kitchen would be beneficial, but it is not essential. The right attitude, reliability and willingness to learn are just as important.
