Great food starts with a great team. Are you looking to build your skills and start or develop your career as a Chef?

We’re looking for a Commis Chef to join the kitchen brigade at De Vere Horsley Estate in East Horsley, Surrey.

As a Commis Chef with De Vere you’ll be part of a busy hotel kitchen where there’s plenty of variety. From breakfast and conference lunches to restaurant and bar menus, weddings and special events, you’ll have the opportunity to work with different dishes and develop your skills along the way.

Working alongside our experienced chefs, you’ll prepare ingredients, support different sections of the kitchen and learn how we prepare and deliver food to a consistently high standard. You’ll be encouraged to ask questions, get involved and build your confidence as part of the brigade.

You’ll also play your part in keeping the kitchen clean, organised and safe, following our food hygiene and health & safety standards at all times.

What we’re looking for from a Commis Chef;

  • Someone who enjoys working with food and is keen to learn and develop their skills as a Chef.
  • A positive approach and willingness to learn from the chefs around you and get involved as part of the brigade.
  • A good eye for detail and pride in the food you help prepare.
  • Someone who is organised and comfortable working in a busy kitchen environment.
  • Previous kitchen experience would be helpful, but it’s not essential as full training will be provided.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
