Commissioning Engineer – Junior / Mid-Level / Senior / Manager
UK, London (Europe focused)
A leading global energy technology company is expanding its international Commissioning team and is looking to hire Commissioning professionals across Junior, Mid-Level, Senior and Manager levels.
The business is at the forefront of the global energy transition, delivering large-scale battery energy storage and energy technology solutions across international markets. As the organisation continues to grow, this is an opportunity to join a technically ambitious company working on some of the largest and most advanced energy projects globally.
Depending on your level of experience, you will support or lead the commissioning of large-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and associated energy technology.
The role is highly international and hands-on, working closely with engineering, project management, construction, quality and operations teams to ensure systems are installed, tested, commissioned and handed over safely and effectively.
Global travel is a core part of the position. Candidates must be genuinely comfortable and happy with significant international travel and working on project sites globally.
Junior Commissioning Engineer
Responsibilities
- Support commissioning activities for BESS and associated energy systems.
- Assist with pre-commissioning checks, inspections, testing and system validation.
- Support fault finding and troubleshooting of technical issues.
- Assist senior engineers with commissioning documentation and reports.
- Work alongside engineering and site teams to ensure equipment is correctly installed and prepared for commissioning.
- Follow commissioning procedures, HSE requirements and technical standards.
- Develop technical knowledge across BESS, electrical systems, controls and associated technologies.
- Support Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) and system handover activities.
- Work alongside experienced commissioning engineers to develop practical technical expertise.
- Travel internationally to support project commissioning activities.
Requirements
- Engineering degree, HNC/HND or equivalent qualification.
- Some exposure to electrical systems, commissioning, automation, controls or energy technology.
- Internship, graduate or early-career engineering experience is welcomed.
- Strong technical curiosity and willingness to learn.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Fluent Chinese – C1 level or above (NON-NEGOTIABLE).
- Professional working proficiency in English.
- Genuine willingness and ability to travel globally on a regular basis.
Mid-Level Commissioning Engineer
Responsibilities
- Lead commissioning activities for assigned systems and project areas.
- Carry out testing, configuration, troubleshooting and validation of BESS and associated electrical systems.
- Identify and resolve technical issues during commissioning.
- Coordinate with engineering, construction and project teams to ensure commissioning activities remain on schedule.
- Review technical documentation, drawings, test procedures and commissioning plans.
- Support FAT, SAT and site acceptance activities.
- Produce commissioning reports and maintain accurate technical documentation.
- Liaise with customers, contractors and suppliers during commissioning.
- Support and mentor junior engineers.
- Contribute to the development of commissioning procedures and best practice.
- Travel extensively to project sites globally.

Requirements
- Typically 2–5+ years' relevant engineering or commissioning experience.
- Experience with electrical systems, commissioning, testing or industrial equipment.
- Experience troubleshooting technical issues independently.
- Experience working on complex engineering projects or at customer/project sites.
- Fluent Chinese – C1 level or above (NON-NEGOTIABLE).
- Professional working proficiency in English.
- Must be genuinely happy with extensive global travel and spending significant time internationally on project sites.
Senior Commissioning Engineer
Responsibilities
- Take technical ownership of commissioning activities across major BESS projects.
- Plan and execute commissioning strategies, testing procedures and site acceptance activities.
- Lead troubleshooting and root-cause analysis of complex electrical, control and system-level issues.
- Coordinate commissioning activities across multiple engineering disciplines.
- Work closely with project management, engineering, construction and customers to ensure successful project delivery.
- Review and approve commissioning documentation, test plans and procedures.
- Lead FAT, SAT, energisation, testing and final system handover activities.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior and mid-level engineers.
- Manage commissioning risks, technical issues and project priorities.
- Represent the commissioning function in meetings with customers, contractors and other stakeholders.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of commissioning processes and standards.
- Take a leading role in international project deployments and commissioning activities.
Requirements
- Typically 5–8+ years' relevant experience in commissioning or a closely related technical discipline.
- Strong experience leading commissioning activities and troubleshooting complex systems.
- Experience within BESS, renewable energy, power electronics, industrial automation or a similar environment is highly desirable.
- Demonstrable ability to lead technical activities and mentor less experienced engineers.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Fluent Chinese – C1 level or above (NON-NEGOTIABLE).
- Professional working proficiency in English.
- High mobility and a genuine willingness to travel globally extensively.
Commissioning Manager
Responsibilities
- Take overall responsibility for commissioning activities across projects or a portfolio of projects.
- Develop commissioning strategies, plans, schedules and resource requirements.
- Lead and manage commissioning engineers and site teams.
- Coordinate commissioning activities with project management, engineering, construction, quality and operations.
- Manage commissioning budgets, timelines, resources and technical risks.
- Act as the senior technical point of contact for customers, EPC partners, contractors and other stakeholders.
- Oversee FAT, SAT, energisation, testing and final handover activities.
- Ensure commissioning is completed safely, efficiently and in accordance with project requirements.
- Resolve complex technical and commercial issues affecting commissioning delivery.
- Establish and improve commissioning procedures, standards and best practices.
- Provide technical leadership, coaching and development to the wider commissioning team.
- Support the wider business with commissioning strategy and project planning.
- Lead the international deployment of commissioning teams across global projects.

Requirements
- Typically 8+ years' relevant experience, with significant commissioning and project leadership experience.
- Proven experience managing commissioning teams and complex technical projects.
- Strong understanding of electrical systems, controls, BESS or related energy technologies.
- Experience managing customers, EPCs, contractors and multidisciplinary project teams.
- Strong leadership, planning and problem-solving skills.
- Fluent Chinese – C1 level or above (NON-NEGOTIABLE).
- Professional working proficiency in English.
- Must be highly mobile and genuinely happy to travel globally on a regular and potentially extensive basis.
