PE Global is currently recruiting for an experienced Commissioning Engineer to join our energy client based in Peterhead, Scotland. The role is an initial contract through to June 2028 and the rate for this role is £375 p/day outside IR35.
The project is expected to begin commissioning in Q2 2027 and will run approximately through to June 2028. The role will initially involve remote home working for planning activities before becoming full-time onsite from Q2 2027.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare and coordinate pre-commissioning, commissioning and start-up activities through to project completion and handover.
- Execute and oversee testing activities for 400kV HVDC switchgear.
- Perform and follow up on National Grid testing procedures.
- Develop and manage detailed commissioning plans, schedules and procedures.
- Coordinate commissioning and testing activities across site teams, contractors and third-party providers.
- Develop pre-commissioning test procedures and ensure any deficiencies identified are corrected.
- Lead and coordinate contractors, site teams and stakeholders throughout commissioning activities.
- Prepare commissioning documentation, reports, acceptance forms and handover documentation.
- Ensure commissioning activities comply with safety, quality, environmental, legislative and grid code requirements.
- Liaise with relevant government agencies and stakeholders where required to obtain approvals prior to start-up.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive commissioning, quality, environmental and safety plans.
- Provide technical leadership and support to other professionals and commissioning personnel.

Requirements
- Proven experience as a Commissioning Engineer within high-voltage electrical or HVDC environments.
- Must hold TP141A Certification / National Grid authorisation.
- Experience working with 400kV switchgear, ideally within HVDC projects.
- Strong knowledge of commissioning and testing procedures for high-voltage electrical systems.
- Experience developing and managing commissioning plans, schedules and technical documentation.
- Proven ability to coordinate contractors, site teams and multiple stakeholders.
- Strong understanding of safety, quality, compliance and grid code requirements.
- Ability to work independently and manage complex commissioning activities with limited oversight.
- Willingness to travel between project sites in Peterhead, Scotland and Drax, UK, particularly towards the latter stages of the project.
- Full right to live and work in the UK.
