Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced Commissioning Engineer to support the testing, commissioning, and handover of Integrated Security Systems (ISS) across critical National Grid infrastructure projects, including HVDC converter stations. This role will focus heavily on commissioning complex electronic security systems within live operational environments, working alongside principal contractors, technology providers, and National Grid stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Commission and test Integrated Security Systems within critical infrastructure environments.
- Complete Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), and system handovers.
- Configure, test, fault-find, and validate security platforms.
- Support commissioning activities across CCTV, access control, intercom, perimeter detection, and associated network infrastructure.
- Identify and resolve integration, software, and hardware issues.
- Produce commissioning documentation, test records, and handover packs.
- Work collaboratively with project managers, installation teams, and client representatives.
- Ensure compliance with National Grid procedures, safety standards, and project specifications.
- Support warranty investigations and defect resolution where required.
Essential Experience
- Proven experience commissioning Integrated Security Systems within critical infrastructure environments.
- Previous work on National Grid, utility, energy, transmission, HVDC, substation, gas compressor, or similarly regulated sites.
- Strong commissioning and testing background within electronic security systems.
- Experience conducting Site Acceptance Testing (SAT).
- Ability to diagnose and rectify system faults during commissioning and post-handover phases.
- Experience working in live operational environments with strict permit and safety procedures.

Technical Experience Required
- Candidates should demonstrate experience with some or all of the following systems:

- Gallagher Access Control
- CCTV Platforms
- IP CCTV Systems
- Axis Cameras
- Commend Intercoms
- Access Control Systems
- ANPR Systems
- Fibre Networks
- Structured Cabling
- Electronic Security Integration
- Network Configuration & Diagnostics
- Security System Software Configuration
Preferred Experience
- Previous involvement with National Grid ISS programmes.
- Experience on HV substations or HVDC converter station projects.
- Background working with principal contractors and security integrators.
- Knowledge of cyber-secure security environments.
- Experience resolving commissioning defects and supporting warranty periods.
Qualifications & Certifications
- Valid National Grid Person / Competent Person authorisation (desirable).
- SCO91 (desirable).
- SMSTS or SSSTS.
- ECS / CSCS.
- Relevant manufacturer training (Genetec, Gallagher, Synectics, Commend etc.).
- IPAF and PASMA advantageous.
- Fibre optic testing and splicing certifications advantageous.

Ideal Candidate Profile
We are particularly interested in Commissioning Engineers who have previously commissioned Genetec-based security solutions on National Grid, utility, transmission, energy, oil & gas, or other critical national infrastructure projects. Candidates with experience delivering security systems through FAT, SAT, integration testing, and handover stages will be highly desirable. This aligns closely with experience gained on National Grid ISS security programmes involving systems such as Genetec, Gallagher, Axis, Commend, Synectics, and other integrated security technologies.
