Your new role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Commissioning Engineer to join the Balance of Plant team on the Hinkley Point C project in Somerset. Hinkley Point C is the first new nuclear power station to be constructed in the UK in more than 20 years and will provide low-carbon electricity to approximately six million homes.
Reporting to the Commissioning Manager, you will play a key role throughout the commissioning lifecycle, combining technical engineering expertise with project delivery responsibilities. During the planning phase, you will review commissioning documentation, develop test specifications and prepare safety documentation. As the project progresses, you will support and lead commissioning activities on site, analyse test results and contribute to the safe transition of systems into commercial operation.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing commissioning documentation and reviewing contractor-produced commissioning records.
- Supporting detailed commissioning, planning and taking ownership of assigned test programmes.
- Executing and supervising commissioning activities on site.
- Ensuring commissioning deliverables are completed safely, on time and in accordance with project requirements.
- Supporting the analysis of commissioning results and resolving technical issues.
- Working closely with contractors and project stakeholders to facilitate successful commissioning activities.
- Supporting contractual reviews, acceptance activities and project milestone achievement.
- Promoting a strong safety culture and ensuring compliance with all quality and operational requirements.

What you'll need to succeed
To be considered for this role, you should have:
- A degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Strong technical knowledge of mechanical and process systems.
- Excellent engineering problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Experience working within commissioning, operations, maintenance or major project environments.
- Good IT literacy, including Microsoft Excel, SharePoint, Adobe review tools and Microsoft Word.
- The ability to learn and utilise specialist project software platforms.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with contractors and multidisciplinary teams.
- A delivery-focused mindset with a proven ability to achieve project objectives.
- Demonstrable experience working within robust safety and quality cultures.
- Knowledge of permit-to-work systems and lock-out/tag-out procedures within heavy industrial environments.

The following would be advantageous:
- Previous experience within the nuclear, power generation or wider energy sector.
- Knowledge of UK Power Industry Electrical and Mechanical Safety Rules.
- Experience working on large-scale infrastructure or commissioning projects.
