Following an internal promotion within our team, we are now looking to recruit a new Commissioning Engineer to join our Scotland team.

About the Role

The Commissioning Engineer is responsible for the commissioning, programming, and maintenance of Helvar lighting control systems within the local region. The role includes planning and executing on-site activities, ensuring proper system functionality, and supporting the smooth integration of lighting control solutions.

Key tasks involve engaging with customers and partners at an early stage to clarify timelines, milestones, and handover expectations, as well as providing technical guidance, troubleshooting, and resolving issues during deployment. Additionally, the position requires delivering training to stakeholders to ensure the effective use of Helvar systems and supporting integration activities such as BACnet connectivity.

The Commissioning Engineer works both independently and as part of the local Technical Operations team, contributing to day-to-day activities and ensuring the delivery of high-quality solutions and services throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Commission, program, and maintain lighting control systems and associated products
  • Support and develop the service business by providing reliable and customer-focused technical service
  • Train customers to use the systems effectively and confidently
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders across sales, delivery, and support phases
  • Ensure a smooth, well-informed, and customer-centric experience at every stage of the project lifecycle
  • Act as a trusted advisor and advocate for the company’s solutions, based on a deep understanding of lighting control technologies and the broader technology landscape
  • Engage in regular customer interactions, including site visits, meetings, and participation in relevant industry events and exhibitions
  • Report regularly on sales and project progress using internal tools and processes
  • Manage customer invoicing related to commissioning and programming activities

  • Effective collaboration with internal and external stakeholders
  • Accuracy and consistency in reporting and invoicing
  • Utilization rate (billable hours vs. available working hours)

Requirements

  • A hands-on mentality and a proactive approach to problem-solving
  • Educational background in electrical or communications technology (e.g. engineer or electrician)
  • Some practical experience in the field of electrical or communications technology
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative
  • Solid IT skills, especially proficiency with Windows operating systems and tools
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively
  • Fluent English skills, both written and spoken
  • A valid driving license for a standard passenger car
