Commissioning Engineer
Utility Scale Solar / PV
Remote with UK wide travel
Circular Resourcing are partnered with a growing international energy business to help them find an experienced Commissioning Engineer to cover their portfolio of utility scale solar PV projects across the UK.
This is a remote based role with regular travel all around the UK with a lot of that travel across the north of England and into Scotland.
Permanent opportunity: expected salary £70k - £85k plus benefits
Job description:
The primary focus of this role is commissioning, integration and troubleshooting of solar plant control and communication systems.
The successful candidate should be comfortable working across the complete solar PV installation, including:
- String inverters and inverter communications
- SCADA systems
- Plant controllers / PPC (Power Plant Controllers)
- Communications networks and fibre infrastructure
- Ethernet switches and network architecture
- IP addressing and network configuration
- MV transformers and associated protection systems
- Monitoring and data acquisition systems
- Grid compliance and DNO witness testing activities

The ideal candidate will be capable of commissioning and fault-finding across the full electrical, controls, SCADA and communications package rather than focusing solely on the HV electrical equipment. We are particularly interested in speaking to candidates who have previously commissioned utility-scale solar PV plants, battery storage systems (BESS), SCADA platforms, plant control systems and communication networks, and who have supported DNO witness testing, energisation and grid compliance activities.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Experience commissioning C&I and utility-scale solar PV projects.
- Strong knowledge of solar PV plant commissioning processes.
- Experience configuring and commissioning inverter systems.
- Experience commissioning SCADA and plant control systems.
- Competent in point-to-point testing and functional testing.
- Experience carrying out G99 injection testing and grid compliance testing.
- Ability to read and interpret single line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, and control philosophies.
- Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to project sites.

Desirable Skills
The following experience would be highly advantageous:
- Understanding of power system studies and grid integration.
- Experience with HV and MV electrical systems.
- Knowledge of HV switching procedures and safe systems of work.
- Experience with electrical protection relays, protection settings, and protection testing.
- Familiarity with G100 export limitation systems.
- Experience working alongside DNOs and National Grid commissioning teams.
- Knowledge of battery energy storage systems (BESS).
- Electrical qualifications such as HNC/HND, Degree, or equivalent in Electrical Engineering.
- Authorised Person (AP) or Senior Authorised Person (SAP) experience.
