Commissioning Manager - 132/33kV Substation DNO & Private Network Projects

Location: Remote (occasional travel to projects across the UK when required)
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Duration: 12 months
Hours: Monday to Friday, with potential weekend work depending on requirements
Requirements: 5+ years' experience in 132-400kV substation commissioning management or commissioning engineering (DNO authorisations are not required)
Additional: Outside IR35

We are supporting a major UK power infrastructure contractor in the appointment of an experienced Commissioning Manager to remotely support a growing portfolio of high-voltage substation DNO & private networks projects across the UK.

The majority of the current workload is around 132kV, covering private networks and DNO connections across several patches. The business is also moving further into transmission-level work and ideally requires someone with 275/400kV commissioning expertise too.

This is not a hands on commissioning role or a position tied to one specific project. The successful candidate will provide commissioning leadership/management across multiple projects, supporting Project Managers from design and planning through testing, commissioning, compliance and energisation.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage project commissioning strategies and execution plans.
  • Produce and review ITPs, commissioning plans, procedures and test documentation.
  • Develop commissioning programmes, sequencing and energisation plans.
  • Support Project Managers with commissioning readiness and technical decision-making.
  • Review designs, specifications, drawings and client requirements from a commissioning perspective.
  • Coordinate commissioning activities with designers, planners, subcontractors, DNOs and clients.
  • Manage and technically assure commissioning subcontractors.
  • Monitor commissioning progress against programme and identify risks, constraints and outstanding actions.
  • Ensure all testing, documentation and handover requirements are completed prior to energisation.
  • Lead commissioning readiness reviews and support energisation activities.
  • Manage technical interfaces between construction, commissioning, protection, control, SCADA and network stakeholders.
  • Support tender and pricing teams by reviewing commissioning scope, programme and resource requirements.
  • Ensure commissioning activities comply with relevant DNO, client, safety and quality standards.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
