Commissioning Manager – Major Energy Infrastructure

Location: UK Wide

Rate: £500-£700 per day (Outside IR35)

Contract Length: 12 Months+

We are supporting a leading engineering and construction organisation delivering major energy infrastructure projects across the UK.

They are seeking an experienced Commissioning Manager to manage and coordinate commissioning activities across complex, large-scale projects, ensuring systems are safely tested, commissioned and handed over in line with project requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage commissioning activities from pre-commissioning through to final handover.
  • Develop and oversee commissioning programmes, schedules, procedures, and documentation.
  • Coordinate commissioning engineers, subcontractors, vendors, consultants, and client representatives.
  • Manage commissioning activities across electrical, mechanical, EC&I, and control systems.
  • Oversee testing, commissioning, witnessing, fault finding, and system validation.
  • Review commissioning procedures, test scripts, test packs, and technical documentation.
  • Monitor commissioning milestones and ensure activities remain aligned with the overall project programme.
  • Work closely with project, construction, engineering, and operations teams to resolve commissioning issues.
  • Ensure commissioning activities are completed safely and in accordance with project specifications and client requirements.
  • Support system energisation, operational readiness, client demonstrations, and final project handover.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Commissioning Manager delivering major energy, power, or infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of electrical, mechanical, and/or EC&I systems.
  • Experience managing complex commissioning programmes and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Experience across sectors such as power generation, transmission & distribution, substations, renewables, nuclear, or other major energy infrastructure.
  • Strong understanding of commissioning processes, testing methodologies, and project handover.
  • Experience coordinating contractors, vendors, engineering teams, and client stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong understanding of health, safety, quality, and commissioning compliance requirements.
  • Relevant electrical, mechanical, or engineering qualifications preferred.
