Commissioning Engineer
About the Role
Our Client is seeking an experienced Commissioning Engineer to support the delivery of a well-established Energy from Waste Facility in The Midlands. The successful candidate will play a key role in the commissioning, testing, start-up and handover of critical plant systems, ensuring safe and efficient operation of the facility prior to commercial operation.
This position is ideally suited to candidates with a strong background in Energy from Waste, Power Generation, Biomass, Waste-to-Energy, or Industrial Process Plants, particularly those with hands-on commissioning experience relating to boiler systems and Flue Gas Treatment (FGT) plants.
Key Responsibilities
- Support and execute commissioning activities across mechanical, electrical and process systems.
- Develop, review and implement commissioning procedures, method statements and test documentation.
- Lead system walkdowns, punch list management and turnover activities.
- Coordinate commissioning activities with construction, operations and engineering teams.
- Conduct pre-commissioning, cold commissioning and hot commissioning activities.
- Oversee performance testing and system optimisation during start-up phases.
- Ensure all commissioning activities are carried out in compliance with project HSE requirements.
- Troubleshoot technical issues and provide practical solutions to achieve commissioning milestones.
- Liaise with equipment vendors and specialist subcontractors during testing and start-up phases.
- Support the successful handover of systems to the operations team.

Essential Requirements
- Proven commissioning experience on Energy from Waste, Biomass, Power Generation, CHP, Industrial Process or Heavy Industrial projects.
- Strong knowledge of boiler systems, steam generation and associated balance of plant equipment.
- Previous experience commissioning Flue Gas Treatment (FGT) systems.
- Understanding of commissioning processes, procedures and documentation.
- Ability to interpret P&IDs, process flow diagrams and technical documentation.
- Strong focus on health, safety and quality standards.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Desirable Requirements
- Previous experience with Babcock & Wilcox (B&W) boiler technology.
- Experience commissioning waste-to-energy or thermal treatment facilities.
- Familiarity with DCS, control systems and process optimisation during start-up phases.
- HNC/HND or Degree qualification in Mechanical, Process, Chemical or Electrical Engineering.
