DEPUTY COMMISSIONING MANAGER

Location: Remote in the UK with occasional office visits in London (2nd year will be site based in North Wales)

Contract Duration: 12 months (renewable)

Job Status: Full-Time

Start Date: ASAP

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Deputy Commissioning Manager to support the successful delivery of a major Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) project.

Reporting to the Commissioning Manager, this role will support the safe planning, preparation, and execution of all commissioning activities across the project lifecycle. Working closely with project management, engineering, construction, completions, client teams, and vendors, you will play a key role in ensuring commissioning activities are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with project objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Support and deputise for the Commissioning Manager across all commissioning activities
  • Lead and support commissioning teams during planning, preparation, and execution phases
  • Develop and maintain commissioning strategies, procedures, schedules, and execution plans
  • Support commissioning activities through engineering, construction, pre-commissioning, and commissioning phases
  • Participate in HAZOPs, model reviews, FATs, smart completions, and systemisation activities
  • Coordinate commissioning resources and ensure readiness for execution activities
  • Work closely with engineering, construction, quality, completions, and client teams to achieve project milestones
  • Support the development and execution of commissioning test procedures and system handover activities
  • Monitor commissioning progress, identify risks, and provide regular reporting to project management
  • Manage commissioning-related change control and ensure compliance with project procedures
  • Interface with client representatives, vendors, subcontractors, and third-party service providers
  • Support permit-to-work activities and ensure all commissioning operations are executed safely and in line with HSEQ requirements
  • Contribute to audits, investigations, lessons learned, and continuous improvement initiatives

Requirements

  • HNC or equivalent qualification in an engineering discipline, or a recognised site-based technical background
  • Extensive commissioning experience within energy, power generation, oil & gas, process, or industrial projects
  • Previous experience in a Commissioning Manager, Deputy Commissioning Manager, Lead Commissioning Engineer, or Senior Commissioning role
  • Strong understanding of commissioning processes, execution methodologies, and systems completion activities
  • Experience developing commissioning documentation, strategies, test procedures, and execution plans
  • Proven ability to lead and manage multidisciplinary commissioning teams
  • Strong knowledge of construction-to-commissioning handover processes and turnover requirements
  • Experience managing vendor, subcontractor, and client interfaces throughout project execution
  • Detailed understanding of permit-to-work systems and safe systems of work
  • Proficiency with commissioning management systems, databases, and reporting tools
  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to HSEQ performance and continuous improvement
  • Ability to work effectively within a multi-cultural project environment
