Staffordshire County Council

We're embarking on an ambitious transformation of Children’s and Families services and our vision is rooted in four core principles that underpin everything we do:

  • Families first – network and community always
  • Right help, right time – proportionate, timely and co-produced with children and families
  • Whole-system responsibility for supporting children and families to be happy, healthy and safe
  • Permanence as belonging from day one

To achieve our ambition, we are looking for talented, values-driven leaders who can champion these principles, inspire others and help shape the future of Children's and Families services in Staffordshire.

We want to create a more resilient, child-centred and future-focused system that enables children, young people and families to receive the right help at the right time.

Through this redesign, we are strengthening leadership, increasing capacity and creating clearer lines of accountability across our services. These changes will support high-quality practice, stronger partnerships and better outcomes for children and families, while ensuring we are well positioned to respond to national reforms and future challenges.

Join us at an exciting time of transformation as Staffordshire continues to develop innovative support for children and young people with SEND.

We are focused on helping families thrive by providing the right support at the earliest opportunity. Through effective commissioning, partnership working and evidence-based decision making, we are committed to improving outcomes for children and young people while ensuring services provide excellent value for money.

This is an excellent opportunity for an organised and motivated individual to develop their career within a supportive commissioning team, helping to shape and monitor services that make a real difference to children and families across Staffordshire.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and proactive Commissioning Support Officer to join our SEND Commissioning Team until 31/3/2028.

Working alongside Commissioning Managers and Commissioning Officers, you will play a key role in supporting commissioning projects from development through to implementation.

This role offers a varied workload combining project support, research, stakeholder engagement and financial administration.

If you enjoy working collaboratively, are highly organised and want to make a positive difference for children and families, we would love to hear from you.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
