Commissioning Technician

The Commissioning Technician position is a key role within the engineering team. This role is critical to the success of the department as it develops and builds relationships with customers and internal colleagues alike. The trust gained in this position is invaluable to the department’s progress and smooth running. The role requires effective communication skills not only with customers but with colleagues across multiple departments, with a proactive and enthusiastic approach to coordination and planning.

The Commissioning Technician will provide technical support and field assistance to Structure Works installation and service engineers, ensuring projects are being installed correctly, to company standards and to the highest industry standards possible.

It is the responsibility of the Commissioning Technician to commission, test and handover projects to the client and client’s representatives, encompassing all steps from the beginning of the project to the successful completion. All relevant quality assurance steps for compliance and standards will be audited by the Commissioning Technician and where required directed to the relevant person to correct.

The Commissioning Technician will provide technical support and assistance to the Design and Sales team ensuring all new projects, tenders and pricing submissions are compliant with company standards, industry standards and will meet client expectations.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate, Commission, Test & Troubleshoot projects for all locations covered by the business unit.
  • Be on the customer sites for the vast majority of the works, hands on commissioning.
  • Manage all server deployments and all programming activities.
  • Inspects cable installation, device installation, head-end build out, system final termination, programming, and testing of systems.
  • Take responsibility for adherence to Structure Works technical standards on all projects.
  • Communicate with PM and internal staff regarding engineering tasks and follow up action items.
  • Contribute to the technical design/design assurance and delivery of new complex, global projects.
  • Provide Technical / Operational support to Structure Works teams when required.
  • Build and maintain technical relationships with suppliers/partners.
  • Ensure all projects that are delivered have undergone a detailed technical review and a validated Commissioning process.
  • Work with colleagues in the technical team/engineering personnel in country.
  • Service and maintenance support – on some occasions, assist field engineers, LSPs and clients resolving technical problems, commissioning/programming. Providing remote support to customers, colleagues, and subcontractors.
  • Adhere to existing processes for commissioning, QA/QC & project sign off.
  • Travel to sites to meet clients and build relationships.
  • Manage, supervise, and organize existing junior Engineers; mentor, train and develop their skillset.
  • Hands on commission projects.
  • Correct completion of the paperwork and/or handover documentation, submitted timely for jobs/tasks undertaken, in order that company records are maintained accurately.
  • Co-ordinating with the clients IT, Security, Health & Safety and facility management teams, to ensure a high level of client cooperation.

  • Enterprise level CCTV and Video Management Systems to at least a basic qualification

Education and/or Experience

  • 5 years or more field experience of commissioning medium to large size enterprise level access control systems
  • 5 years or more field experience of commissioning medium to large size enterprise level CCTV systems
  • 10 years or more experience working in the electronic security system industry
  • Wide range of customer base (datacentres, office buildings, warehousing, etc.)

Work Environment:

All works are coordinated out of our office in Country, which is a typical office environment. From time to time the Commissioning Technician will perform some duties from this office (programming scripts / prebuild of equipment / preconfigure and test of equipment). Most of the working time will be on site at customers’ premises. Working locations vary from domestic and commercial premises to construction sites. There will be occasions when there is a requirement to work away from home, when the projects are too far to reasonably travel daily.
