Freelance Commissioning Technician | EC&I | Oil & Gas / LPG | Essex | 3 Month Contract
I’m working with a leading contractor supporting a major Energy / LPG infrastructure project in Essex and am looking for an experienced Commissioning Technician to join the team on a freelance basis.
Location: Essex
Duration: 3 Months Initial Contract
Start Date: ASAP / September 2026
Rate: Competitive Day Rate with Living Allowance
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out commissioning activities across electrical, control and instrumentation systems.
- Support pre-commissioning, commissioning, testing and start-up activities.
- Complete inspection, testing and functional checks of EC&I equipment and systems.
- Carry out loop checks, I/O checks, instrument calibration and functional testing.
- Identify, troubleshoot and rectify commissioning issues.
- Review commissioning documentation, test sheets, procedures and drawings.
- Work closely with commissioning engineers, project management and other site disciplines.
- Ensure all commissioning activities are completed safely and in line with project procedures.
- Support the completion of commissioning records, punch lists and handover documentation.

Essential:
- Previous experience as a Commissioning Technician.
- Strong EC&I / E&I background.
- Proven commissioning experience within Oil & Gas, LPG, LNG, Petrochemical, Energy or Process industries.
- Experience with electrical and instrumentation testing and commissioning.
- Experience working on industrial/process plant environments.
- Strong understanding of commissioning procedures and documentation.
- Relevant electrical/instrumentation qualifications.
- Strong health & safety awareness.

Desirable:
- Previous experience on LPG/LNG facilities or gas terminals.
- Experience working on COMAH-regulated sites.
- COMPEX qualification.
- Experience with PLC/DCS/SCADA systems.
- Experience with loop checking, I/O testing and cause & effect testing.
- Previous shutdown/turnaround or major project experience.
