Independent Committee Member – Housing Association
Desire Affordable Homes Ltd
Location: Tulse Hill, London Borough of Lambeth
Remuneration: Non-profit
Time Commitment: Approximately one day per month
Desire Affordable Homes is a new housing association serving Lambeth and the wider South London community, focused on shared housing plans and social housing for local residents. As we prepare to formally register, we’re inviting two independent members to join as Founding Committee Members, helping shape our organisation from the very beginning.
We’re building a community-led housing association committed to delivering secure, affordable homes – including shared ownership and social housing – for people in Lambeth and surrounding South London communities.

As a Founding Committee Member, you will play a key role in shaping Desire Affordable Homes from its earliest stages, helping define our governance structure, strategic priorities, and community focus ahead of formal registration. Drawing on your experience in housing associations, community development, or social work, you’ll bring independent judgment to committee discussions, ensuring our approach to shared ownership and social housing is grounded in real community need. This is a foundational role: your input now will directly influence the organisation’s direction, values, and impact for years to come.

About you
- Senior experience in strategic asset management, housing associations, social work, regeneration or housing investment.
- Strong understanding of building safety, compliance and the Safety and Quality Standard.
- Passionate about affordable housing and its impact on local communities.
- Confident providing independent judgment and are comfortable contributing to strategic and governance discussions.
- Committed to customer-focused investment and our values.
- High standards of personal and professional integrity.
