Specialist Support Assistant – Communication Support
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Specialist Support Assistant – Communication Support to provide specialist communication support for a profoundly deaf student whose primary language is British Sign Language (BSL).
The successful candidate will work closely with teaching staff to enable full access to learning, social activities, work placements, and wider college life through effective BSL communication and Total Communication approaches.
The role will involve:
- Facilitating communication
- Promoting independence
- Supporting social interaction
- Helping the student develop the confidence and communication skills needed for adulthood, employment, and community participation
Requirements:
- Minimum BSL Level 3 qualification
- Experience of supporting deaf learners or individuals with communication needs
- Commitment to creating inclusive learning environments where students can thrive and achieve their full potential
Position Details:
- 18 hours per week
- Fixed term
- Term time only
- For 1 academic year
