Communications and Admin Officer

Active Partnerships
Salary: £28,000-£30,000
Location: Home-based (UK), with regular travel across England - all travel and accommodation expenses covered
Contract: Full time (37.5 hours with flexible working), fixed term to 31 March 2028, with scope for extension

Active Partnerships is the national organisation supporting a network of 42 local Active Partnerships across England, working together to create healthier, more active communities. Behind that network sits a small, friendly national team - and this role is at the heart of keeping it connected.

We're looking for an organised, proactive and creative person to support our communications and events team, and to be a go-to person for colleagues in the Sport Welfare team. If you enjoy helping others, like variety, and take real satisfaction in things running smoothly, this role will suit you.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Helping our events run smoothly - researching venues, gathering quotes from suppliers, welcoming delegates on the day, and pulling together feedback afterwards
  • Creating and sharing content across our website, newsletters and social media channels
  • Becoming the friendly first point of contact for our network-wide Microsoft Teams space, which connects more than 1,000 people across the network
  • Spending around one day a week supporting our Sport Welfare team - including a weekly roundup email that more than 60 Sport Welfare Officers receive
  • Supporting the wider team with things like slide decks, registration forms, meeting notes and general admin

What Success Looks Like

Within six months, you'll be confidently starting the groundwork for events on your own, drafting content without extensive briefing, getting the weekly roundup out on time every Friday, and known across the organisation and the network as a key contact for communications and events. You'll have freed up your colleagues to focus on the bigger picture - and that's exactly the point of the role.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

What You'll Bring

You don't need experience in sport and physical activity, and you don't need to have done this exact job before. We're interested in what you can do:

  • Strong organisation - you can juggle requests from different people and work out what needs doing first
  • A friendly, patient and professional communication style, written and spoken
  • Confidence with digital tools and a genuine willingness to learn new ones - we use things like WordPress, Mailchimp, Canva, Microsoft Teams and SharePoint, but you don't need to know them all on day one
  • The ability to pull out the key points from a lot of information for busy readers
  • Self-motivation working from home, while staying closely connected to a team
  • A helpful, service-minded approach - you enjoy making other people's work easier

Research shows that some people - particularly women and people from underrepresented groups - only apply for roles when they meet every requirement. If you can see yourself in most of the list above, we'd genuinely love to hear from you.

What We Offer

  • 30 days' annual leave plus bank holidays (pro rata)
  • 6% employer pension contribution when you contribute 2%
  • Genuinely flexible working hours
  • Health cover
  • Home working, with 3-4 in-person team days a year and travel to and attendance at events - you don't need a driving licence, and all reasonable travel and accommodation costs are covered
