Communications and Marketing Officer (Projects)
As our new Communications and Marketing Officer (Projects), you’ll do both: capturing the people, partnerships and achievements behind some of our funded projects, while developing creative campaigns to promote project activities and events to a range of audiences.
You’ll be part of the National Park Authority’s Communications and Development team, working closely with project delivery teams, partners and funders to uncover compelling stories, create engaging content and communicate the impact of our work through digital and print. You’ll also help our activities and events reach wider audiences, encouraging more people to discover, enjoy and connect with strategic projects being delivered by the National Park.

Job Purpose
To support the development, delivery and promotion of strategic projects across Northumberland National Park Authority (NNPA), ensuring project activity, achievements and impact are effectively communicated to a range of audiences.
The postholder will work closely with project leads, partners, funders and stakeholders to develop and deliver communications and marketing activity that supports project objectives, strengthens partnerships and demonstrates outcomes. The role will contribute to the successful delivery of externally funded projects through communications planning, stakeholder engagement, impact reporting, fundraising support and the development of high-quality content across digital and traditional channels.
Key Result Areas
Project Communications and Development
- Develop and deliver communications plans for Authority projects, ensuring activities, outputs and outcomes are promoted effectively to relevant audiences.
- Support project managers and teams in developing communication and engagement approaches that meet project objectives and funder requirements.
- Create compelling content including case studies, newsletters, website content, social media content, presentations and promotional materials to showcase project achievements and impact.
- Research, write and distribute media releases and project updates through both traditional and digital channels.
- Support the development of project marketing materials in accordance with NNPA brand guidelines.
- Gather project information, data, photography, video and stakeholder feedback to communicate project impact and success.
- Support consultation and engagement activities linked to projects, including workshops, events, meetings and digital engagement.
- Maintain clear records of communications and engagement activity and contribute to project monitoring and evaluation requirements.
- Support dissemination and knowledge-sharing activities across project partners and stakeholders.

Policy Development and Implementation
- Support the implementation of NNPA's Communications Strategy through project-based communications and marketing activity.
- Contribute to communications planning for projects delivered by the National Park Authority.
- Support internal communications relating to project delivery, ensuring staff, members and volunteers are informed and engaged.
- Support an integrated communications approach aligned with Authority priorities, strategic objectives and business plans.
- Participate in out-of-hours communications activity where required.
Partnership Working and Stakeholder Engagement
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with project partners, funders, community organisations and stakeholders.
- Support communication and consultation with project stakeholders to ensure effective engagement and participation.
- Work collaboratively with internal teams to maximise project visibility and impact.
- Liaise with contractors, designers, photographers, videographers and printers where required.
- Actively contribute to a culture of innovation, collaboration and shared learning across the Authority.
- Represent the Authority and its projects at meetings, events, conferences and stakeholder forums when required.
Project Monitoring and Evaluation
- Support the collection and analysis of communications data to measure project performance and impact.
- Produce reports, case studies and impact summaries for internal and external audiences.
- Monitor media coverage, digital analytics and stakeholder feedback relating to projects.
- Contribute to reporting requirements for funders and partners.
Statutory and Regulatory Work
- Proactively support the promotion of equality, diversity and inclusion in all areas of work.
- Ensure communications activity complies with relevant legislation, organisational policies and funding requirements.

Person Specification
Essential
Knowledge
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office and WordPress.
- Strong understanding of communications and stakeholder engagement approaches.
- Knowledge of digital channels and content creation techniques.
- Understanding of monitoring, evaluation and impact reporting.
- Understanding of different social media platforms and digital engagement methods.
- Awareness of project delivery processes and partnership working.
- Familiarity with Northumberland National Park and The Sill: National Landscape Discovery Centre.
- Awareness of UK National Parks and the role they play in society.
