We are Hiring: Job Title: Communications and Public Affairs Officer
Location: Dudley Council (Hybrid – 3 days onsite per week or as required at short notice)
Start Date: Within one week of acceptance
Contract: 6 Months
Rate: £200/day PAYE
Job Purpose
The Communications and Public Affairs Officer will support the delivery of the council's corporate communications strategy, helping to protect and enhance the council's reputation. The role covers both internal and external communications, marketing, media relations, stakeholder engagement, and public affairs while ensuring communications remain accessible and aligned with the council's brand.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the development and implementation of the council's corporate communications strategy.
- Deliver effective internal and external communications campaigns.
- Manage media relations and public affairs activities.
- Act as the council's brand champion, ensuring consistent messaging across all channels.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with elected members, senior officers, partners, and external stakeholders.
- Produce reports, presentations, and communication materials.
- Monitor campaign performance, analyse results, and provide recommendations.
- Support crisis communications and reputation management activities.
- Ensure communications are accessible, inclusive, and aligned with corporate objectives.

Essential Requirements
- Experience in a marketing, communications, or public affairs role.
- Strong project management and public relations experience.
- Proven ability to build relationships across local government, including elected members and senior officers.
- Experience monitoring communications performance and producing analytical reports.
- Experience managing communications during sensitive or crisis situations.
- Excellent report writing and presentation skills.
- Experience working within a politically sensitive or complex public sector environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Background
- Local Authority or Public Sector communications experience.
- Experience supporting senior leadership and elected members.
- Knowledge of media relations, stakeholder engagement, and reputation management.
