We are looking for a freelance communications consultant
To build our funder and sector-facing profile over an initial 4 month, up to 25-days contract.
About SUM
Solar United Madagascar (SUM) is a partnership of SEED Madagascar, Feedback Madagascar, Money for Madagascar, Jiro-Ve and SolarAid providing off-grid solar energy access to rural schools in Madagascar through lighting, digital learning, and clean cooking services.
The opportunity
SUM is strengthening its communications to build more proactive relationships with trusts and foundations and to establish a more visible presence in energy-access sector discussions. We're looking for a freelancer to build this function from the ground up: a communications plan, a content system that draws on all five partners, and a steady monthly flow of credible, sector-appropriate content.

What you'll do
- Finalise SUM's communications plan— positioning, channels, content pillars and sign-off process — within the first 4–6 weeks.
- Own SUM's external channels day to day: LinkedIn in the lead, Instagram and the website alongside it, including engaging directly with sector conversations (Mission 300, off-grid energy access, and similar).
- Build a working content pipeline across all five partner organisations — sourcing, fact-checking, safeguarding-clearing and rotating voice across the partnership.
- Deliver up to 5 posts/updates a month — mostly field and activity stories, up to 2 a month for funders and sector peers — plus a lighter cadence of website updates.
- Report monthly on output and engagement, and deliver a short end-of-contract review with a recommendation on what comes next.

What we're looking for
- Communications/content experience in international development, energy access or a related sector, reaching funders and sector bodies.
- Comfortable building a process from scratch and coordinating input from several partner organisations at once.
- A working understanding of safeguarding practice around imagery and stories involving children.
- Clear, sourced, plain-English writing
- French an advantage, not essential.
