The Role
The Communications Executive plays an important role in supporting the Financial Times’ business objectives and editorial priorities at an exciting stage in the company’s growth.
Working within the Communications and Marketing Group, you will help shape and communicate the FT’s narrative and reputation to external audiences as the organisation continues its evolution as a global digital media business and advances its subscriptions strategy.
You will support a broad range of communications activity, from media relations and integrated campaigns to monitoring, reporting and team coordination. This is a varied role for someone with a strong interest in news and digital media who enjoys writing, building relationships and working collaboratively in a fast-moving environment.
This is a 15-month fixed term contract opportunity ending in December 2027.

- Build and maintain targeted media lists and develop relationships with journalists, producers and presenters.
- Identify emerging opportunities across traditional and new media channels to extend the reach of FT journalism and the FT brand.
- Identify and engage relevant content creators across YouTube and social platforms.
- Prepare media briefings and conduct background research for senior communications colleagues, spokespeople and journalists ahead of interviews and public appearances.
- Lead the team’s use of media and social media monitoring tools, maintaining accurate tracking of communications activity, news coverage and journalists’ broadcast appearances.
- Help organise the team work plan, map outputs against targets and produce clear meeting notes and actions.
- Support coordination between the FT’s UK, US and APAC communications teams.
- Contribute to other communications activity as required, including internal communications and events.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
