I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Media relations and PR will be a big part of your world. You’ll develop proactive media opportunities, build strong relationships with journalists, broadcasters and media organisations, and identify opportunities to secure positive regional and national coverage.
There’s plenty more to get stuck into too. You’ll:
- Lead on reputation management, corporate communications and sensitive or high-profile communications.
- Oversee internal communications, helping keep colleagues informed, engaged and connected.
- Develop brilliant case studies, patient stories, supporter stories and impact-led content.
- Support campaigns with strong communications, PR and storytelling that help maximise their reach.
- Lead communications with key stakeholders, partners and external organisations.
- Oversee publications, newsletters and supporter-facing editorial content.
- Identify awards and thought-leadership opportunities that showcase the charity’s achievements.
- Support communications involving ambassadors, advocates, influencers and high-profile supporters.
- Work with senior leaders on messaging, speeches, presentations and media preparation.
- Manage and develop a Communications Executive, providing support, coaching and plenty of opportunity for them to grow.
You’ll also keep an eye on what’s working, using media coverage, audience insight and engagement data to continually improve communications activity. The team is embracing digital tools and AI too, so there’s an opportunity to explore how technology can make communications smarter and more effective without losing the authenticity behind the stories.

What are we looking for?
We’re looking for an experienced communications professional who can balance strategy with delivery.
You’ll be comfortable taking ownership, advising senior stakeholders and managing multiple communications priorities, but equally happy rolling your sleeves up and getting involved when needed.
You’ll ideally bring strong experience across PR and media relations, content and editorial planning, corporate and internal communications, stakeholder engagement and reputation management.
Most importantly, you’ll be a brilliant communicator and natural storyteller. Someone who can take a complex message and make it engaging, spot the story others might miss and understand how great communications can build trust, engagement and reputation.
You don’t necessarily need charity experience, but you will need to genuinely connect with the organisation’s purpose. This is a team incredibly passionate about what they do, so they’re looking for someone who wants to be part of it.
Sound like you? Drop us a line. We’d love to tell you more! Pitch is working exclusively with this client, so we are the best route to be considered for this role.
