Specialist focus communications and marketing
In addition to general duties, this role brings specialist expertise to the Board. We are particularly looking for someone who can
- Provide strategic oversight and leadership on Balance's communications, marketing and public profile at Board level.
- Support and challenge the executive team on promotional strategy, brand, and how Balance reaches and engages its communities, funders and partners.
- Champion the charity's story — helping raise awareness of our services, impact and volunteering opportunities.
- Advise on digital presence, campaigns, media, and stakeholder engagement, and help identify opportunities to strengthen Balance's reach.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What will you be doing?
Our trustees play a vital role in making sure that Balance achieves its core purpose. They oversee the governance and administration of the charity, ensure we have a clear strategy, and that our work and goals remain in line with our vision. Just as importantly, they support and challenge the executive team to enable Balance to grow and thrive.
Board members have a collective responsibility — trustees always act as a group, and not as individuals.
