About The Role
Can you turn complex information into clear, engaging stories? Do you enjoy creating content and campaigns that help people understand the opportunities and services available to them?
We’re looking for a Communications Officer to join our communications and public affairs team at the Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority.
You’ll help communicate work that matters to our region, from improving transport and growing the economy to raising Cambridgeshire and Peterborough’s profile as a place for investment.
Reporting to the Corporate Communications Manager, you’ll take ownership of communications projects, content, and campaign activity, working with colleagues across the organisation to understand their priorities and find effective ways to reach their audiences.
This is a varied, hands-on role for someone who combines strong writing skills with digital confidence, sound judgement, and the ability to see work through from brief to delivery.
What you will be doing
- Planning and delivering comms activity, taking ownership of defined projects, workstreams, and smaller campaigns.
- Creating engaging, accurate, and accessible content for websites, social media, newsletters, press releases, and marketing campaigns.
- Working with colleagues to develop clear briefs, advise on communications approaches, and constructively challenge ideas where needed.
- Managing and updating digital channels, ensuring content follows accessibility requirements, brand guidelines, and our tone of voice.
- Using audience insight and performance data to shape content, evaluate activity, and improve results.
- Coordinating timelines, actions, and deadlines to keep communications activity on track.
- Exploring new digital tools and approaches and sharing knowledge and good practice within the team.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
