The Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) is an Executive Agency of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) and is responsible for ensuring the safety, quality, and efficacy of veterinary medicines in the UK.

We have a vacancy for a Communications Officer.

Key Responsibilities

We are looking for a Communications Officer to join our team and play a key role in supporting the Communications Team, and the wider organisation by acting as a primary point of contact for external enquiries. Main duties:

  • Business Support:
    • Handle general enquiries and complaints, including phone calls into our mainline using MS Teams telephone.
    • Manage and maintain our correspondence management system (eCase), ensuring enquiries and call-back requests are accurately recorded, assigned, tracked, and closed within set service standards.

    • Manage our internal and external contact records.
    • Undertake routine and ad hoc administrative tasks as required to support team objectives and delivery plans.

    • Act corporately by meeting, role-modelling, embedding, and championing VMD corporate objectives.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
