Role Title: Communications Officer, Tour De France Grand Départ 2027
Contract length: Full-time, Fixed term until end of August 2027
Location: Manchester (hybrid working model, minimum 2-3 days per week in Manchester office)
In 2027 the UK will host the Grands Départs of the Tour de France and the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift. This will be the first time in history that both races have departed from the same country, outside of France. A landmark social impact programme, JOY, is also being delivered across the UK as part of the Grands Départs, tackling inactivity, improving mental wellbeing, boosting economic growth and supporting communities to thrive.
A Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) Grand Départ GB 2027 will maintain oversight of the delivery of the events and will manage public funding on behalf of DCMS, Scottish Government, Welsh Government and UK Sport.
The SPV is a Joint Venture between UK Events Ltd and British Cycling. British Cycling will deliver the operational and business function, social impact and volunteer programme along with all consumer facing functions, on behalf of partners.
We are now recruiting an enthusiastic and talented communications professional to assist the communications team in the planning and delivery of communications activity aligned to the Grands Départs.
This role will sit in British Cycling's high-performing Communications team. From elite competition and iconic events to community programmes that change lives, we shine a spotlight on the people, moments and impact that make cycling such a powerful force for good, reaching and inspiring audiences across the country.

About The Role
In this role you will work with the Grand Départ GB Communications Lead and specialist communications agency on all communications associated with the Tour de France and Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift Grands Départs 2027.

This includes the development and execution of all Grands Départs communications activity on a day-to-day basis, responding in a timely manner to any reactive media enquiries, and assisting with the delivery of high-profile tentpole moments across the communications campaign, as well as managing and coordinating promotional activity by partners.
What Will You Be Doing
- Executing the communications plan to drive awareness and engagement with the Grand Départ 2027 - telling the story of the races (before, during and after) and an aligned social impact programme across England, Scotland and Wales
- Assisting the communications lead with the organising of the communications group, meetings and liaison with all key stakeholder partners and local authorities.
- Supporting partners to develop and deliver local communications activity aligned with the overarching Grands Départs campaign.
- Assisting with announcements, activations and PR opportunities, and coordinating with colleagues responsible for marketing and digital channels.
- Supporting the Grands Départs outwards communications, particular with respect to volunteer communications, business and resident communications and spectator information. This will include copy writing and proofreading.
- Responsible for the monitoring of media coverage national and regionally and assisting in the production of regular reports, particularly around key events or announcements.
- Supporting the promotion of the Grand Départ GB social impact programme JOY, ensuring activities and outcomes are celebrated across host locations.
- Being a part of event-time activity at the Grands Départs, working flexibly across some evenings and weekends where required.

What we’re looking for:
- You will have some experience (12 months or more cumulatively) of working in a communications role in sporting events and a relevant qualification in a linked subject, such as communications, media, journalism or marketing.
- You will thrive on working with large groups of partner organisations to deliver coordinated and aligned communications, activity and announcements, to achieve maximum impact.
- You have high attention to detail and are confident in your own written copy and also in proofreading and editing that of colleagues and stakeholders.
- You are a people person - building positive relationships with colleagues, stakeholders, media and agencies.
- You are adaptive and flexible to adapt to changing priorities in a mega event environment, and enjoy a fast-paced and dynamic environment, managing multiple priorities.
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to support multiple workstreams, track actions, and maintain clear documentation.
- You are passionate about being part of a team who will deliver exceptional experiences through world-class event operations.
- While an understanding of cycling and professional road racing is preferable, it is important that you both an interest in sport and a passion for highlighting the life changing impact that major sporting events and riding a bicycle can bring, and the wider benefits to health, society and communities.
