I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What we’re looking for?
- Experience delivering culture, engagement or community initiatives
- Ability to improve ways of working, not just deliver activity
- Strong stakeholder management skills, including engagement with senior leaders
- Confidence working with data, KPIs and reporting to drive decisions
- Experience coordinating across multiple stakeholders or networks
- Strong organisational and communication skills
And any experience of these would be great:
- You’ve supported operating model implementation or maturity journeys
- You have experience in hybrid or multi-site environments
- You’re comfortable balancing delivery, governance and continuous improvement
- You’ve worked with DE&I, social impact or behavioural change initiatives
What you’d get in return
- Regular contact with senior leaders across multiple divisions and locations; a central role in shaping our new ways of working; exposure to comms, KPI measurement, colleague engagement and cultural initiatives; and a supportive, forward-thinking team where you can learn, grow and thrive. Driving a strategy that enables our workplaces to make impact in the lives of our people and their wider communities.
