Role Description:
Primarily based in Slough, the Community Advice Adviser and Advice First Aid Trainer will provide face-to-face and telephone advice to members of the community, helping them understand their rights, options, and available support. The role includes assessing client needs, gathering relevant information, and signposting or referring to appropriate services. The adviser will also design and deliver “Advice First Aid” training sessions to community partners, volunteers, and local groups, building their confidence in identifying advice needs and making effective referrals.
Day-to-day tasks include:
- Maintaining accurate case records
- Undertaking outreach activities
- Contributing to local projects
- Collaborating with colleagues and external stakeholders to improve service reach and quality

Qualifications:
- Strong Community Engagement skills, including the ability to build trust with diverse local residents and groups.
- Excellent Communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain complex information clearly and sensitively.
- Stakeholder Engagement experience, including working with partner organizations, community leaders, and volunteers.
- Training skills, with experience or confidence in delivering workshops, group sessions, or educational activities.
- Project Management abilities, including planning activities, meeting deadlines, and coordinating resources.
- Good IT literacy, including use of email, online research tools, and case management or CRM systems.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and also independently, using initiative and sound judgment.
- Awareness of, or interest in, social welfare issues such as housing, debt, employment, and benefits; prior advice or advocacy experience is an advantage.
- Commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusive service delivery.
- Relevant training or qualifications in advice work, community development, social work, education, or a related field are desirable but not essential.
