Consett Magazine Distributor and Sales Assistant
About Consett Magazine
Connsett Magazine has been part of this town since 2012. It goes into homes, shops, and businesses across Consett and the surrounding villages every month, and we are looking for one person to take charge of getting it out there, and then to help local businesses get into it.
That is two jobs in one, and we would rather be straight about it from the start.
Delivery Round
The first week of every month is the delivery round:
- You collect the print run and get it out to the shops, cafes, community venues, and pick-up points across Consett.
- It is a concentrated couple of days and it needs someone reliable, because if it does not happen the magazine does not reach anybody.
Sales and Engagement
The rest of the month is the more interesting half:

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Experience fit
Your summer at the bank plus your econometrics coursework map directly to the day-one responsibilities on this scheme — client modelling, market briefings, and deal support.
Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
- You are out in Consett meeting business owners, telling them what the magazine does, and signing up the ones who want to be in it.
- There are no cold-call scripts, no daily targets, and no pressure selling.
- We are a local magazine and the businesses we want in it are our neighbours. What works here is turning up, being known, and being useful.

- Organised enough to run your own diary without being chased
- Living in or around Consett, and genuinely interested in the place
- Own car or van, with insurance that covers business use. Mileage is paid at 45p a mile
- No advertising or sales experience needed. We would rather find the right person and teach them the rest

Being Straight About the Shape of It
This is a part-time job of around 27 hours a month, so for most people it will sit alongside something else, and that is fine. If it is your second job you should know that tax is normally taken at 20% on the second one.
The commission is the part of this job with real headroom and it is uncapped, but it takes a few months to build, which is exactly why there is a guaranteed minimum while you get going.
“It took my CV and asked me questions relevant to understanding what kind of jobs to suggest for me. Suggestions were almost perfect. Jobs were exactly what I’ve been looking for.”
