The Role

The Community Charge Nurse post is an exciting opportunity to work within the East Dunbartonshire Mental Health Team. The base is at Kirkintilloch Health and Care Centre, but the post holder will be required to travel to patient’s homes and other bases throughout East Dunbartonshire and parts of North Lanarkshire.
The post holder will be required to have excellent mental health assessment skills and knowledge. They will be expected to work autonomously but also collaboratively, with the MDT. The post holder requires to have excellent planning and organisational skills. Be adaptable and flexible. They will be expected to support the Nurse Team Lead and provide supervision for junior staff, including student nurses.
They will support delivery of low level psychological therapies, individually or within a group setting. Training and supervision will be provided for the delivery of low level psychological therapies. The post holder will be provided with training and robust supervision in their role and work collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team.
They are required to be a 1st level Mental Health nurse and registered with the NMC. The post holder is required to have post graduate experience. Due to the large demographical area within East Dunbartonshire, they will require a valid driving licence.
All other roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.
Duration, Location, and Working Pattern
- Location: Based in Kirkintilloch Health and Care Centre
- Contract: Permanent
- Hours: Full-time position (36 hours per week)
- Shift pattern: Monday - Friday 9-5pm (one day finish at 3.30pm)
Key Responsibilities
- To carry out telephone assessments, intervention and give advice
- To carry out specialised mental health assessments of referred patients/clients and to feedback in writing to the GP the findings of the assessment using a variety of measuring proforma as used by the team which will specify details of planned interventions and appropriate redirections
- To provide short term input using evidence based therapy
- To apply specialist knowledge and expertise in the application of evidence-based psychological interventions and assessments
- To plan, develop and undertake educational and therapeutic group programmes as indicated by client need
- To demonstrate effective caseload management and skills in determining priorities and the effective managing of resource allocation
- To independently make decisions with regard to the clients package of treatment, which may include redirecting referrals onto other agencies and services (e.g. CMHT, voluntary organisations)
- To discharge when appropriate to the care of the GP and to inform them, in writing, of the outcome of the intervention/treatment
- Planning and organising appointments with clients in conjunction with the availability of necessary facilities
- To contribute to the development and maintenance of the highest professional standards of practice through active participation in internal and external CPD training and development programmes in consultation with the clinical lead
- To maintain the highest standard of clinical record keeping and report writing in accordance with professional codes of practice, policies and procedures

Knowledge, Training, Qualifications and/or Experience Required to Do the Job
The Post Holder Must
- Have an appropriate professional background. This could include being a 1st level mental health nurse, with minimum 3 to 4 years post graduate experience.
- Be registered with an appropriate professional body (NMC).
- Have experience of working with individuals who have experienced common mental health problems.
- Have training in psychological therapies relevant to the post and which is evidence based e.g. CBT, solution focussed therapy approach, SPIRIT.
- Post Holder must hold full driving licence as the position requires the post holder to drive to patients homes, community settings throughout East Dunbartonshire and areas of North Lanarkshire.
The Post Holder Should Also Be Able To Demonstrate
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Good team working skills
- The ability to work independently and without direct supervision, set own clinical priorities
- The ability to reflect and critically appraise own performance
- The ability to analyse professional and ethical issues and respond appropriately
- Knowledge and of the role of Primary Care Mental Health Teams within the Mental Health Network
- Knowledge of the role of Community Mental Health Teams, Social Work Area Teams and non statutory organisations within the mental health network
- Knowledge of health and social work legislation and its practice in relation to clinical area
- The ability to organise and respond efficiently to complex information.
- The ability to select and implement clinical guidelines to ensure best practice and evidence based interventions
- Evidence of continued professional development and a commitment to ongoing continued professional development relevant to area of practice.
- The ability to work across both teams and develop good working relationships with various disciplines.
- Possess excellent organisational and project management skills
