Community Chef Educator at Community Kitchen

About the Role

Community Kitchen is seeking a dedicated Chef Educator to lead our culinary initiatives and drive positive change within the Knottingley store.

The role requires a chef who can:

  • Create nutritious meals from surplus food stocks
  • Deliver inspiring programs that engage and empower local communities
  • Challenge traditional practices, question assumptions, and innovate solutions

You will collaborate with internal/external stakeholders to embody Community Shop’s values while fostering leadership, initiative, and effective teamwork.


Accountabilities & Responsibilities

  • Menu innovation: Use culinary expertise to transform surplus food into healthy, appetising meals
  • Community empowerment: Lead Social Impact & culinary development programs, including:
    • Engaging workshops and activities to nurture confidence and independence
    • Broadening membership growth to maximise reach
  • Training & development: Deliver in-house education programs and upskill Community Kitchen staff
  • Partnerships: Collaborate with not-for-profit, public, and private sector organisations to expand opportunities
    • Advocate synergistic benefits (social + financial) to advance our mission
  • Policy compliance: Ensure adherence to Health, Safety & Environmental standards
  • Cross-departmental engagement: Build strong working relationships across the organisation
  • Leadership & team culture: Foster a high-performing team through supportive leadership and skill development
  • Knowledge sharing: Stay updated on departmental trends and share insights

Essential Requirements

  • Proven culinary expertise (industry experience preferred)
  • NVQ Level 2 in Catering (or equivalent certification)
  • Food Hygiene Certificate Level 2+ (mandatory for food-handling roles)
  • Knowledge of HACCP principles

✔ Experience delivering cooking training programmes ✔ Work history with vulnerable individuals (e.g., food poverty initiatives, youth programmes) ✔ Background in community-based projects or social enterprise
